Job summary

Telemattica is an Australian industrial IoT company specialising in condition monitoring for rail infrastructure. The IoT Field Engineer will own new customer installations, coordinate field deployments and ensure equipment is configured and tested before shipment from Sydney.

You will travel internationally to install and commission systems on trains and trams, monitor deployed equipment, troubleshoot field issues and feed lessons back into product and deployment improvements.

Work hands-on with industrial IoT systems throughout their real-world lifecycle - configuring equipment before it leaves our Sydney office, installing and commissioning systems on trains and trams around the world, and keeping deployed equipment operating reliably.

This role suits an experienced technician or early-career engineer who enjoys practical work, takes pride in getting the details right and wants genuine responsibility for equipment operating in the field.

You will own new customer installations and help manage Telemattica's operational equipment once it is deployed. It is a role where a high standard of work is essential, with the equipment you prepare and install operating on in-service trains and trams around the world.

We design and build hardware, sensors, software, computer vision and AI systems that are installed on in-service trains and trams to monitor infrastructure during normal operation.

Our multidisciplinary team works across the full lifecycle of these systems - from design and testing through to deployment, operation and ongoing improvement.

About the role

As an IoT Field Engineer, you will report to the Operations Manager and work across both our Sydney office and customer sites in Australia and overseas.

A significant part of the role is making sure equipment is properly configured, tested and ready before it leaves Telemattica. From there, you will take responsibility for coordinating and completing installations for new customers, commissioning systems in the field and resolving issues that arise once equipment is operational.

You will also monitor deployed systems for existing customers, investigate problems and work with our engineering team to identify root causes and lasting fixes.

Attention to detail matters in this role. Our equipment is installed on operational rail vehicles, and poorly prepared or incorrectly installed equipment can have serious consequences. We are looking for someone who understands that responsibility and approaches practical work carefully and methodically.

The role involves frequent international travel, sometimes with relatively short notice, so you need to genuinely enjoy field work and be comfortable travelling as a regular part of your job.

What you will be doing

Configure, assemble, test and prepare IoT equipment before shipment.

Verify equipment is correctly configured and ready for installation against documented requirements.

Plan and coordinate equipment installations for new customers.

Travel to customer sites to install, commission and validate equipment on trains and trams.

Take ownership of installation quality and make sure work is completed accurately and thoroughly.

Monitor operational equipment deployed with existing customers and follow issues through to resolution.

Troubleshoot device and system problems in the field and remotely.

Work with engineering staff to diagnose root causes and implement lasting fixes.

Maintain clear records of configuration, installation, testing and field issues.

Feed lessons from installations and operational systems back into product, testing and deployment improvements.
