Job summary

Veterinary Specialists of Sydney (VSOS) is seeking an experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our Internal Medicine team on a full-time basis in Sydney. You will work alongside specialists, residents and a skilled nursing team, caring for complex medical cases and participating in diagnostic workups, anaesthesia and procedures.

Ideal candidates have busy-clinic nursing experience, strong patient care, great communication and a willingness to learn within a multidisciplinary hospital.

Veterinary Specialists of Sydney (VSOS) is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Veterinary Nurse to join our Internal Medicine team full time.

If you love complex cases, enjoy learning, and want a nursing role where you can genuinely develop your clinical skills, Internal Medicine might be exactly what you're looking for.

This is not your average veterinary nursing position. You'll work alongside specialists, residents and an experienced nursing team, caring for patients with complex and often fascinating medical conditions.

What does an Internal Medicine Nurse do?

The better question might be — what don't we do?

Our Internal Medicine nurses are involved in everything from managing complex hospital patients and assisting with advanced diagnostic workups to anaesthesia and specialised procedures.

Depending on the day, you could be:

Nursing complex medical inpatients

Assisting with endoscopy, bronchoscopy and other minimally invasive procedures

Providing anaesthesia and patient monitoring for procedures under specialist anaesthesia guidance

Assisting with ultrasound-guided procedures and biopsies

Caring for oncology and chemotherapy patients

Preparing patients for CT and MRI

Placing IV catheters and collecting blood samples

Running laboratory samples and assisting with diagnostic investigations

Managing medications, fluid therapy and treatment plans

Working closely with our specialists and residents throughout a patient's diagnostic journey

Communicating with other departments to coordinate multidisciplinary cases

You’ll see everything from gastrointestinal and respiratory disease to endocrinology, haematology, oncology, immune-mediated disease and some wonderfully complicated diagnostic mysteries.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is curious, motivated and genuinely loves nursing.

Ideally, you'll have:

Veterinary nursing experience in a busy clinical environment

Strong patient care and hospital nursing skills

Confidence with IV catheter placement, blood collection and medication administration

An interest in advanced procedures

Excellent communication and organisational skills

The ability to work well within a busy multidisciplinary team

A willingness to learn, ask questions and continually develop your skills

Previous referral or specialist experience is highly regarded, but not essential.
