Job summary

UnitingCare Queensland on the Gold Coast is seeking an Intake Practitioner to join the homelessness service in Bilinga. This casual intake role is the first point of contact for walk-ins, phone inquiries and third-party referrals, delivering screening, triage and intake assessments to support housing pathways.

Qualifications

• Minimum Cert. IV in human services or related field.
• Current Driver's Licence and Blue Card.
• Proficiency with IT systems including Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Experience in the community services sector.
• Ability to engage with people in crisis and diverse backgrounds.
• Team player with autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Set up and manage drop-in service and follow up enquiries.
• Respond to enquiries by phone, email, walk-in and third parties.
• Record data in client management systems (SHIP, QHIP).
• Conduct screening, triage and risk assessment with oversight.
• Provide intake to identify housing needs and goals.
• Coordinate access to daily practical services (breakfast, shower, laundry).
• Build rapport with individuals and families in crisis.
• Apply empathy, advocacy and de-escalation in interactions.
• Collaborate with Regional Manager and staff to assess risks.
