Job summary

St John of God Geelong Hospital is seeking a casual Instrument Technician Grade 1 to join the Central Sterile Supply Department. The role offers flexible hours and an opportunity to support safe, high-quality patient care by cleaning, inspecting, packing, sterilising and distributing surgical instruments.

You will maintain sterile stock levels, support infection control and audits, and work with theatre and clinical teams to ensure availability of instruments and equipment as needed.

Responsibilities

The hospital provides a range of services including an emergency department, day surgery, medical, surgical and maternity services, along with a 24 hour critical care unit and Cath Lab services.

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Instrument Technician Grade 1 to join our Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) on a casual basis. This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy flexible working hours while playing an important role in supporting safe, high-quality patient care. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will be responsible for the cleaning, inspection, packing, sterilisation and distribution of surgical instruments and sterile supplies.

You will maintain sterile stock levels across the hospital, support infection control and quality standards, complete department documentation and audits, and work closely with Operating Theatre and clinical teams to ensure instruments and equipment are available when needed.

Your skills and experience

To succeed in this role, you will have strong communication and organisational skills, a commitment to customer service and teamwork, and the ability to effectively prioritise and manage your workload in a busy environment.

You will demonstrate initiative, a willingness to learn, and an understanding of infection control, workplace health and safety, and compliance requirements.

A Mayfield Certificate or previous CSSD experience will be highly regarded.
