Harrison McMillan Pty Ltd in Adelaide is seeking an Infrastructure Planning Engineer to shape the council’s renewal program. You will assess infrastructure condition, plan renewal scopes and engage with delivery teams to implement cost‑effective projects that improve the community.

The role emphasises asset management, road renewal, drainage interfaces and collaboration with design, delivery and external consultants in a full‑time permanent capacity.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Civil Engineer with demonstrated experience in infrastructure planning, asset management, road rehabilitation or civil project scoping development.
  • Strong pavement engineering and road rehabilitation knowledge.
  • Experience in planning, scoping and delivering renewal projects.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and scope renewal projects across roads, pavements, curb and gutter, footpaths and stormwater infrastructure.
  • Review asset condition, maintenance history, and existing infrastructure information.
  • Develop site investigations and structural assessments; prepare cost estimates and business cases.
  • Coordinate works with stakeholders and ensure whole‑of‑life asset management principles are applied.

Our client is a progressive and well-established metropolitan council serving a diverse and growing community of more than 130,000 residents, the organisation manages a significant portfolio of community infrastructure, roads, drainage, open space and public assets. They are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Planning Engineer to help shape this local Council’s future infrastructure renewal program.

This is a technically focused role for an engineer who can assess infrastructure condition, understand underlying failure mechanisms and develop practical, cost-effective renewal strategies. About the role

You will be responsible for:

  • Planning and scoping renewal projects across roads, pavements, curb and gutter, footpaths and stormwater infrastructure.
  • Reviewing asset condition, maintenance history, traffic, drainage and existing infrastructure information.
  • Developing and managing appropriate site investigations and structural assessments.
  • Diagnosing pavement and infrastructure deterioration and determining appropriate rehabilitation treatments.
  • Identifying opportunities to coordinate road works with drainage, utilities, footpaths, accessibility, curb and streetscape improvements.
  • Preparing project scopes, technical briefs, preliminary cost estimates, risk assessments and business cases.
  • Working closely with asset management, design, delivery, operations, consultants and other stakeholders.
  • Applying whole-of-life asset management principles to optimise investment and minimise future maintenance and rework.
About you

You will be a qualified Civil Engineer with demonstrated experience in infrastructure planning, asset management, road rehabilitation or civil project scoping development.

You will ideally bring:

  • Strong pavement engineering and road rehabilitation knowledge.
  • Experience investigating infrastructure failures and interpreting technical testing.
  • Understanding of stormwater, drainage and civil infrastructure interfaces.
  • A curiosity for alternative materials, treatments and approaches and identify opportunities to improve asset life and environmental impacts.
  • Experience developing renewal scopes and treatment strategies.
  • Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A practical understanding of construction, risk, cost and whole-of-life considerations.

Local government experience is desirable, but we also welcome candidates from consulting or infrastructure delivery backgrounds.
