Job summary

Latrobe Regional Health in Gippsland, Victoria, is seeking an Infectious Diseases Advanced Trainee to join our Medical Services team on a full-time fixed-term basis until 06 February 2028. The role offers broad exposure to infectious diseases practice, including inpatient management, ambulatory care, and clinical research.

Working under ID physicians, the trainee provides specialist consultation, participates in outpatient clinics and Hospital in the Home programs, contributes to infection

Qualifications

  • MBBS degree and general registration with AHPRA.
  • Registration with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as an Advanced Trainee.
  • Clinical competence and sound diagnostic/decision-making abilities.

Latrobe Regional Health is looking for Infectious Diseases Advanced Trainee to join our growing team on a full time (1.0EFT) fixed term basis until 06 February 2028.

The Infectious Diseases Advanced Trainee is an integral member of the Infectious Diseases Unit, providing specialist consultative services to medical and surgical inpatients while supporting ambulatory and outpatient models of care. This accredited training position offers broad exposure to the full spectrum of infectious diseases practice, including complex inpatient management, Hospital in the Home services, outpatient clinics, public health activities and clinical research.

Working under the supervision of experienced Infectious Diseases physicians, the trainee contributes to high ‑ quality patient care, multidisciplinary collaboration, medical education and quality improvement initiatives while progressing advanced specialist training through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).

The role of the Infectious Diseases Advanced Trainee is to:
  • Provide specialist infectious diseases consultation and management advice for hospital inpatients, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and supervising consultants.
  • Participate in Infectious Diseases outpatient clinics and ambulatory care services, including Hospital in the Home programs, to support continuity of patient care.
  • Contribute to infection prevention, antimicrobial stewardship and public health activities, including management of notifiable conditions.
  • Assist with the education, supervision and support of Basic Physician Trainees, junior medical staff and medical students.
  • Participate in research, clinical trials, quality improvement projects and departmental activities that advance infectious diseases practice and patient outcomes.
  • Escalate complex clinical issues appropriately and contribute to clinical governance, patient safety and evidence ‑ based practice initiatives.
About you

Ideal candidates for this role will have:

  • A Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent and current general registration with AHPRA.
  • Registration with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as an Advanced Trainee, having successfully completed the Divisional Written and Clinical Examinations.
  • Clinical competence appropriate to your level of postgraduate training, with sound diagnostic, decision ‑ making and patient management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, teaching and evidence ‑ based clinical practice.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability and a genuine interest in pursuing a career in Infectious Diseases within a regional health service.
  • A strong interest in regional Infectious Diseases practice, public health, antimicrobial stewardship, research and service development (desirable).
