Job summary

InfraBuild Recycling in Hexham, NSW, is seeking an experienced Fitter to join our team. You will maintain, repair and optimise mechanical systems across steel recycling operations and heavy plant equipment, ensuring reliability and safety on site.

The role focuses on fault finding, diagnostic work, and preventative maintenance, with a strong emphasis on quality and continuous improvement. You’ll contribute to uptime, efficiency and safety within a dynamic, team‑oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade with minimum 5 years in mechanical fitting within steel, FMCG, heavy industry or industrial engineering.
• Strong expertise with valves, pumps, actuators, hydraulics and heavy plant equipment.
• Proven ability to diagnose faults and implement preventative maintenance strategies.
• Tickets and licenses (Forklift, Working at Heights, EWP) highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Perform fault-finding, repairs, and preventative maintenance on heavy industrial equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical failures and implement engineering solutions to maximise uptime and efficiency.
• Carry out installation testing and commissioning of new equipment within the recycling yard.
• Conduct routine servicing, overhauls, and refurbishments of steel and processing plant and equipment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications to complete fabrication and assembly tasks.
• Ensure all work is delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with InfraBuild standards.
