Job summary

Cumberland City Council is seeking an Aboriginal Engagement and Programs Officer to plan, implement and monitor education programs that foster understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within the Cumberland LGA. The role supports the Reconciliation Action Plan and collaborates across Council locations.

Qualifications

• Plan, implement and monitor education programs aimed at building understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, places, history and languages in the Cumberland LGA.
• Experience delivering education programs and engaging with audiences including children, young people and seniors.
• Demonstrated community development/engagement experience with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Demonstrated project management skills: planning, delivery, reviewing programs, multitasking.
• Strong communication, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
• High-level administrative and organisational skills with attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records; advanced Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate financial records and monitor expenditure.
• Current Working with Children Check.
• Current Class C Driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement and monitor education programs aimed at building understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, places, history and languages in the Cumberland LGA.
• Respond to community-identified needs, priorities and strengths in line with Cumberland Council’s Reconciliation Action Plan.
• Engage with diverse audiences and coordinate across Council locations to deliver programs.
