Job summary

Justice and Community Safety Directorate ACT in Canberra is seeking a Community Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer (ASO6) to support the Offender Reintegration team. You will work to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, provide case support, and develop systemic cultural engagement strategies with stakeholders.

The role emphasises cultural understanding, exceptional communication, and the ability to build trusted relationships with Elders,

Qualifications

• Experience working with vulnerable clients with complex needs in a criminal justice setting is highly desirable.
• Driver’s licence (Class C) is essential.
• Pre-employment medical is required.
• WWVP registration (Working with Vulnerable People) is required.
• Identified position open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples; cultural identity may be requested.

Responsibilities

• Support staff to work effectively to improve outcomes for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples within Offender Reintegration and Community Corrections.
• Provide individual case support and develop systemic approaches to cultural engagement and stakeholder relationships.
• Promote best practices in offender management with culturally informed assessment, planning and intervention strategies.
