Job summary

ACT Corrective Services (ACTCS) in Canberra is seeking a Family Worker (ASO6) to support remand and sentenced detainees in maintaining and strengthening family relationships throughout their custodial journey.

You will collaborate with government agencies, community providers and detainees to deliver evidence-informed services, advocacy and practical support that respond to individual needs and reduce identified risks.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
• Background police checks will be conducted.
• Driver’s licence is essential.
• Pre-employment medical is required.
• Eligibility to work in Australia (citizen/permanent resident/work visa) is required.

Responsibilities

• Support remand and sentenced detainees to maintain and strengthen relationships with family members and others.
• Deliver innovative, evidence-informed services to respond to individual needs and reduce risks.
• Provide advocacy, support and practical assistance through case management processes for navigating personal and family connections.
• Engage effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander detainees, families and communities in a culturally responsive manner.
