Job summary

Housing Australia is seeking an IDAM Engineer to design, implement and support secure identity and access management across its Microsoft environment. You will work with Cyber Security and Technology teams to manage Entra ID, strengthen access controls, and ensure secure, compliant access to critical systems and data.

The role requires at least 5 years in IAM, with expertise in Entra ID, Active Directory, Zero Trust, RBAC and PIM, plus automation using PowerShell or Logic Apps.

Qualifications

• 5+ years designing and implementing Microsoft identity solutions (Entra ID/AD).
• Experience with Zero Trust, CA, RBAC and PIM across hybrid environments.
• Proficient in automation and identity governance practices.
• Knowledge of Essential Eight, ISM and PSPF aligned controls is preferred.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration across cyber security and IT teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead IAM architecture and manage Entra ID, AD, and related platforms.
• Implement and govern Zero Trust, MFA, CA and PIM controls.
• Drive user lifecycle management, access reviews and recertification.
• Oversee SSO, hybrid identity, and directory synchronization tasks.
• Provide guidance on identity security best practices and continuous improvements.

About The Role

This is an 18-month fixed-term contract opportunity for an IDAM Engineer to design, implement and support secure identity and access management solutions across Housing Australia's Microsoft environment. Working with Cyber Security and Technology teams, you will manage Entra ID, strengthen access controls, and help ensure secure, compliant access to critical business systems and data.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Identity & Access Management architecture, designing and managing secure identity solutions across Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory and enterprise platforms, while implementing Zero Trust, MFA, Conditional Access and Privileged Access Management controls.
• Drive access governance and automation, including user lifecycle management (joiners, movers and leavers), role-based access controls, access reviews, recertification processes and self-service access solutions.
• Strengthen security, compliance and risk management, ensuring identity controls align with Essential Eight, ISM and PSPF requirements, while overseeing monitoring, auditing and privileged access reviews.
• Manage identity integrations and platform operations, including single sign-on (SSO), hybrid identity, directory synchronisation, federation services and secure integration with Microsoft 365, Azure and third-party applications.
• Provide technical leadership and continuous improvement, advising projects on identity best practices, implementing new Microsoft security capabilities, supporting cyber incident investigations, and driving ongoing improvements to identity governance and security.

Skills And Experience

• Strong Identity & Access Management experience, with at least 5 years designing, implementing and supporting Microsoft identity solutions, including Entra ID, Active Directory, Conditional Access and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
• Deep understanding of modern identity security practices, including Zero Trust, role-based access control (RBAC), identity governance, authentication, authorisation and hybrid identity architectures.
• Experience with access governance and automation, including user lifecycle management, access reviews, provisioning and automation using tools such as PowerShell, Logic Apps or similar technologies.
• Strong security, risk and compliance knowledge, with experience applying identity controls aligned to frameworks such as Essential Eight, ISM and PSPF, and a practical approach to risk-based decision-making.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across cyber security, operations and project teams, while driving continuous improvement, governance and compliance outcomes. A degree in Cyber Security, Information Technology or a related discipline is required, and Microsoft Identity, Cyber Security or industry certifications (such as CISSP or Security+) are highly regarded.
