Job summary

Harmony's CSA Mine in NSW is seeking a Human Resources Manager to lead end-to-end HR at the site, reporting to the General Manager. You will drive workforce planning, industrial relations, compliance with Australian employment law, and development of a high-performing workforce.

The role will operate onsite in Cobar, NSW, on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Brisbane or Sydney, with local candidates considered for a 5/2 roster.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business, or related discipline.
  • Significant HR leadership experience in mining, resources or heavy industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian employment law, IR, and WHS requirements.

Job Description

The Human Resources Manager - CSA Mine is responsible for delivering end-to-end HR leadership at the mine site. Working closely with and reporting to the site General Manager, this role supports safe and productive operations through effective workforce planning, industrial and employee relations, compliance with Australian employment legislation, and the development of a high-performing workforce.

CSA Mine has a workforce of over 500 + contractors and there is also a site-based HR support team. The workforce consists of a mix of residential, DIDO and FIFO.

Roster:

This role will be based onsite in Cobar, NSW working an 8/6-day FIFO roster from Brisbane or Sydney with local candidates highly regarded. Local candidates will be offered this opportunity on a 5/2 Monday to Friday roster., * Act as a trusted HR advisor to the Site General Manager and leadership team.

  • Act as a trusted HR advisor to the Site General Manager and leadership team.
  • Deliver site-based HR strategies aligned with operational and production objectives.
  • Translate corporate HR policies into practical site-specific solutions.
  • Lead the onsite HR function, ensuring consistent and high-quality service delivery.
  • Manage employee relations matters including performance management, grievances, investigations, and disciplinary processes.
  • Interpret and apply site enterprise agreements, awards, and contracts.
  • Support or lead enterprise agreement negotiations as required.
  • Liaise effectively with unions, employee representatives, and external advisors.
  • Lead the team that oversees end-to-end recruitment for site roles.
  • Manage onboarding, mobilisation, site inductions, and compliance requirements.
  • Partner with site leaders on workforce planning, succession, and talent retention.
  • Support roster structures, FIFO/DIDO and residential arrangements, and fatigue management considerations.
  • Support psychosocial risk management and employee wellbeing initiatives.
  • Partner with HSE teams to ensure people-related safety obligations are met.
  • Implement performance management and development frameworks.
  • Identify capability gaps and support training and development initiatives.
  • Drive engagement and retention strategies.
  • Support leadership development and workforce capability uplift.
  • Ensure compliance with the Fair Work Act, WHS legislation, and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, reporting, and dashboards.
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of HR systems and processes.
  • Promote a respectful, inclusive, and values-driven site culture.
  • Support diversity and inclusion initiatives, including Indigenous engagement where applicable.
  • Act as a role model for company values and leadership behaviours.
About the Employer

Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. About the Candidate

To succeed in this role, you should be self-motivated and able to work efficiently and collaboratively in a team environment with the following skills, experience and personal attributes:

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business, or related discipline.
  • Significant HR leadership experience within mining, resources, or heavy industry environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian employment law, industrial relations, and WHS requirements.
  • Proven experience supporting site workforces in remote operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior site leaders and manage complex employee relations.
  • Experience in unionised environments and enterprise bargaining.
  • Exposure to large-scale workforce mobilisation.
  • Prior site-based HR management experience.
  • Practical, resilient, and outcomes-focused.
  • Strong communicator with credibility across operational teams.
  • High integrity, discretion, and sound judgement.
  • Collaborative, hands-on leadership style.
