Job summary

Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. seeks an experienced Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) leader to steer the HSE function across the mine. You will develop and implement strategies, systems and programs to manage risks and strengthen safety culture.

You will lead ISO 14001/45001 aligned management systems, oversee environmental programs and ensure regulatory compliance, while mentoring teams and reporting to senior management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in HSE, with at least 5 years in senior supervisory/management roles.
• Mining or natural resources experience required.
• Strong knowledge of HSE management systems and risk assessment.
• Excellent written and spoken English; Dutch is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the HSE function, including Environment, Health and Safety teams.
• Develop, implement and improve HSE management systems aligned with ISO 14001/45001.
• Drive safety culture and behavior-based safety programs across the mine.
• Provide HSE leadership and advice to senior management and site staff.
• Oversee environmental programs, including environmental impact assessments and tailings management.
• Monitor HSE performance, KPIs, risks and regulatory compliance, with regular reports to leadership.
• Lead HSE risk assessments and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
• Manage HSE budgets, resources, team development and succession planning.
• Maintain relationships with government authorities and local communities.

Role Purpose

Lead the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) function at Rosebel Gold Mines, ensuring compliance with company policies, applicable legislation, international standards and industry best practices. Drive the development and implementation of HSE strategies, systems and programs to manage risks, strengthen safety culture and support sustainable mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the HSE function, including Environment, Health and Safety teams.
• Develop, implement and continuously improve HSE management systems in line with ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and relevant international standards.
• Drive safety culture, behavior-based safety programs and continuous improvement initiatives across the mine.
• Provide HSE leadership and advice to senior management, managers, supervisors and employees.
• Oversee environmental programs, including environmental impact assessments, water, waste and tailings management.
• Monitor HSE performance, KPIs, risks and regulatory compliance, and provide regular reports to senior management.
• Lead HSE risk assessments and ensure effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
• Manage HSE budgets, resources, team development and succession planning.
• Maintain effective relationships with government authorities, local communities and other key stakeholders.
• Ensure all projects and operations comply with applicable HSE legislation, company standards and industry best practices.

1. Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
2. 10+ years of HSE experience, including at least 5 years in a senior supervisory/management role.
3. Mining or natural resources industry experience is required.
4. Strong knowledge of HSE management systems, risk management, ISO 14001/45001 and environmental impact assessment.
5. Strong leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
6. Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
7. Excellent written and spoken English; Dutch is an advantage.
8. Experience with behavior-based safety programs is an advantage.
