Job summary

Schlam Payload in Western Australia’s Shire of Waroona invites an experienced HSE Advisor to join our Waroona Workshop on a part-time basis, three days per week.

You will be a safety partner to the shopfloor, providing day-to-day HSE advice, incident investigations, risk assessments, and practical training while aligning with the broader Safety team.

This flexible local role supports injury management, contractor compliance and ISO standards, offering meaningful impact in a hands-on environment.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Health and Safety or related field.
• Experience in a similar HSE role, preferably in heavy manufacturing/mining/construction.
• Strong knowledge of HSE management systems and ISO standards.
• Proactive hazard identification and risk management.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills across levels.
• Ability to work independently while staying connected with Safety team.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day HSE advice and support to the Waroona Workshop.
• Investigate incidents, support corrective actions, and conduct risk assessments.
• Provide practical HSE advice, safety training and coaching to promote proactive safety practices.
• Support contractor HSE compliance and verification activities.
• Help strengthen a positive, practical safety culture and support environmental, mental health, and fatigue management requirements.
• Support injury management and Workers’ Compensation matters.
• Support HSE management systems and ISO standards compliance.
• Support travel risk management where required.
• Assist with relevant HSE administration and compliance requirements.

The Role

Schlam Payload is growing! We are looking for an experienced HSE Advisor to join our Waroona Workshop on a part-time basis, working 3 days per week. This is a great local opportunity for someone looking for flexibility while still playing an important role in a hands-on operational environment.

You will be a trusted safety partner to our Waroona team, working closely with a friendly and supportive workshop team while also having the backing of the broader Safety team. Whether you are looking for greater work-life balance, returning to the workforce, or simply want a flexible local role, this could be a great fit.

• Provide day-to-day HSE advice and support to the Waroona Workshop, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company procedures.
• Investigate incidents, support corrective actions, and conduct risk assessments and hazard identification.
• Provide practical HSE advice, safety training and coaching to promote proactive and preventative safety practices.
• Support contractor HSE compliance and verification activities.
• Help strengthen a positive, practical and proactive safety culture while supporting environmental, mental health and fatigue management requirements.
• Support injury management, workplace injuries and Workers’ Compensation matters.
• Support HSE management systems, ISO standards and safety performance monitoring.
• Support travel risk management where required.
• Assist with relevant HSE administration and compliance requirements as required.

About You

You are approachable, practical and enjoy being part of an operational team who can influence Schlam’s safety behaviours across all levels of seniority and culture. In addition, you will require the below to be considered.

• A tertiary qualification or certificate in Health and Safety, or a related field.
• Previous experience in a similar HSE role, ideally within heavy manufacturing, mining, construction or a comparable operational environment.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience in HSE management systems and practices.
• A proactive approach to identifying hazards, assessing risk and managing safety concerns.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work with employees at all levels.
• The ability to work independently while staying connected and collaborating with the broader Safety team.
