Job summary

Schlam Payload is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor for our Waroona Workshop on a part-time basis, three days per week. You’ll partner with a hands-on workshop team and the broader Safety group to promote practical safety across the operation.

Responsibilities include advising on compliance, incident investigation, risk assessment, and safety training, while supporting environmental and fatigue management requirements. You will contribute to a strong, proactive safety culture locally.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification or certificate in Health and Safety or related field.
• Experience in a similar HSE role, ideally in heavy manufacturing/mining/construction.
• Strong knowledge of HSE management systems and practices.
• Proactive hazard identification and risk management approach.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills across levels.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with the Safety team.

• Provide day-to-day HSE advice and support to the Waroona Workshop, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company procedures.
• Investigate incidents, support corrective actions, and conduct risk assessments and hazard identification.
• Provide practical HSE advice, safety training and coaching to promote proactive safety practices.
• Support contractor HSE compliance and verification activities.
• Help strengthen a positive, practical and proactive safety culture while supporting environmental, mental health and fatigue management requirements.
• Support injury management, workplace injuries and Workers’ Compensation matters.
• Support HSE management systems, ISO standards and safety performance monitoring.
• Support travel risk management where required.
• Assist with relevant HSE administration and compliance requirements as required.

About You

You are approachable, practical and enjoy being part of an operational team who can influence Schlam’s safety behaviours across all levels of seniority and culture. In addition, you will require the below to be considered.

• A tertiary qualification or certificate in Health and Safety, or a related field.
• Previous experience in a similar HSE role, ideally within heavy manufacturing, mining, construction or a comparable operational environment.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience in HSE management systems and practices.
• A proactive approach to identifying hazards, assessing risk and managing safety concerns.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work with employees at all levels.
• The ability to work independently while staying connected and collaborating with the broader Safety team.
