Job summary

Mackay organisation is seeking an experienced HR, Recruitment & Payroll Coordinator to join its team in a broad, hands-on role.

This role focuses on recruitment for large projects, payroll, Awards, WorkCover and day-to-day HR operations, with support from an existing Recruitment Officer. You will work closely with senior management to deliver across HR and payroll functions.

Qualifications

• Experience in a broad HR, recruitment and/or payroll role.
• Strong end-to-end recruitment experience.
• Exposure to trades, construction, engineering, mining, industrial or project environments.
• Hands-on payroll processing experience.
• Confidence interpreting Awards, allowances, overtime and employee entitlements.
• Working knowledge of the Fair Work Act and National Employment Standards.
• Strong communication, organisation and attention to detail.
• A high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
• HR, Payroll or related qualifications will be highly regarded, while experience with Employment Hero would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end recruitment across the business, including trade, project and professional personnel.
• Coordinate advertising, screening, shortlisting and reference checks.
• Manage onboarding, new starter documentation and inductions.
• Coordinate medicals, training and site requirements.
• Process accurate weekly payroll, and calculate wages, overtime, allowances and leave entitlements.
• Interpret and apply relevant Modern Awards and employment agreements.
• Administer superannuation, PAYG and payroll records, and respond to payroll queries.
• Provide day-to-day HR support to managers and employees.
• Prepare employment contracts and employee documentation, and support performance management.
• Maintain HR policies, procedures and employee records and coordinate WorkCover/return-to-work matters.

The Opportunity

An established Mackay organisation is seeking an experienced HR, Recruitment & Payroll Coordinator to join its team in a broad, hands-on role.

This is a great opportunity for an HR all-rounder who enjoys variety and wants ownership across recruitment, payroll, employee relations and general HR operations.

A major focus will be recruiting for large projects, including trade-based roles such as Boilermakers and Fitters, while also overseeing weekly payroll, Awards, WorkCover and day-to-day HR support.

You will work closely with senior management and be supported by an existing Recruitment Officer.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment

• Manage end-to-end recruitment across the business
• Recruit trade, project and professional personnel
• Coordinate advertising, screening, shortlisting and reference checks
• Manage onboarding, new starter documentation and inductions
• Coordinate medicals, training and site requirements

Payroll

• Process accurate weekly payroll
• Calculate wages, overtime, allowances, penalty rates and leave entitlements
• Interpret and apply relevant Modern Awards and employment agreements
• Administer superannuation, PAYG and payroll records
• Respond to payroll queries and assist with reconciliations and reporting

HR & Employee Relations

• Provide day-to-day HR support to managers and employees
• Prepare employment contracts and employee documentation
• Support performance management and disciplinary matters
• Maintain HR policies, procedures and employee records
• Coordinate WorkCover, return-to-work and rehabilitation matters
• Ensure compliance with the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards and relevant Awards

About You

You will ideally have:

• Experience in a broad HR, recruitment and/or payroll role
• Strong end-to-end recruitment experience
