Job description

This isn't your average HR job.

We’re not after a policy robot, and we’re definitely not looking for someone who wants to sit on the sidelines of HR.

This isn't your average HR job.

We’re not after a policy robot, and we’re definitely not looking for someone who wants to sit on the sidelines of HR.

We’re looking for a hands-on HR Partner who loves the operational and technical side of people. Someone who can own a portfolio, build great relationships with their leaders and employees, keep the employee lifecycle moving, solve problems and provide practical, everyday HR advice.

We're the People team at Place HQ: nine humans who are fun, a little bit cheeky, and seriously passionate about looking after the Place network.

Reporting to our Head of People, you'll have your own portfolio and be the HR person your leaders and teams turn to.

How We Work

Think of us as an in-house consultancy. We advise, guide and influence, but our business owners ultimately make the final decisions. That means you’ll learn how to ask the right questions, understand what’s really going on and give practical advice that helps a leader move forward.

You’ll partner with leaders at every level, from seasoned operators who've seen it all to newer managers that are still finding their feet. What works for one won’t necessarily land with another, so you’ll need to read the room and flex your style: confident and direct when required, patient and hands-on when that’s what the person in front of you needs.

Real estate is full of talented people who know how to build successful businesses - but great leaders aren’t always developed overnight.

In this role, you’ll meet leaders where they’re at, build their capability and support them through the people challenges that come with leadership. Sometimes that means explaining something once; sometimes it takes 14 times. Either way, we keep showing up.

You won’t be expected to know everything. Complex employee relations, Fair Work matters and higher-risk issues can be escalated to our Head of People, giving you the opportunity to work alongside experienced people leaders, learn in real time and gradually take on more ownership.

We’re looking for someone who is curious, willing to have a go and self-aware enough to ask for help when needed. Show us you’re ready, and we’ll give you the opportunity to take the driver’s seat.

The Role
  • Coordinating the full employee lifecycle from onboarding through to offboarding
  • Preparing employment documentation, correspondence and employee records
  • Supporting leaders and employees with everyday HR questions and people matters
  • Providing practical, first-level advice on policies, procedures, employment conditions and Awards
  • Supporting performance management processes and helping leaders prepare for difficult conversations
  • Recognising employee relations or compliance matters that need escalation and working alongside the Head of People as they’re progressed
  • Supporting engagement and employee experience initiatives across your portfolio
  • Maintaining accurate HR systems, records and reporting
  • Working to agreed KPIs and Service Level Agreements and taking ownership of turnaround times
  • Keeping your portfolio moving without needing someone to constantly tell you what happens next
About YOU

We’re less interested in the title on your current resume and more interested in what you can do, how you think and how much you want to learn.

You’ll Bring
  • A solid HR foundation - you’ve worked across the employee lifecycle and understand the fundamentals of Australian HR, employment conditions and Awards.
  • Confidence with people - you can build relationships, ask good questions, have uncomfortable conversations and adapt your approach to very different personalities.
  • Curiosity and judgement - when you don’t know something, your first instinct is to investigate, think it through and come with a considered view rather than simply passing it upwards.
  • Ownership - you’re organised, accountable and capable of managing your portfolio and keeping things moving.
  • An appetite to grow - you care more about what you’re learning, experiencing and becoming capable of than chasing the next title.

The right person rarely fits neatly into a box.

Maybe you’re an HR Coordinator who’s ready for greater ownership and exposure.

Maybe you’re an HR Officer who’s already become the person everyone comes to for help.

Maybe you’ve stepped into an Advisor title but what you really love is being close to the operational work and the people.

We’re hiring the person, not the title on your current resume.

If you’re a problem-solver who loves collaboration, isn’t afraid to get into the detail and wants an environment where you’ll be given the opportunity to genuinely grow your HR capability, we want to meet you.

The Benefits
  • Be part of a motivated and driven team who genuinely love to have fun along the way!
  • Access to ongoing training
  • Regular team & social events
  • Subsidised TotalFusion gym membership
  • Beautiful office in the heart of James Street
