HR Coordinator

Location: Bayswater North, VIC
Work Arrangement: Full-time | 5 days per week onsite

About the Role

SMARDT is seeking an experienced HR Coordinator to support the HR/WHS Manager in the day-to-day operations of the HR/WHS function.

This is a hands‑on and varied HR role, acting as a key point of contact for employees and leaders across the business. You will provide support across recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, learning and development, HR compliance, policies and procedures, and broader HR projects.

This role would suit someone who is confident working autonomously, enjoys building relationships across all levels of a business, and is comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment.

Please note: This is an onsite position based in Bayswater North and requires attendance in the office 5 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate HR initiatives that support a positive, engaging and compliant workplace.

  • Manage end-to-end recruitment activities, including:

    • Working with department leaders to develop position descriptions and KPIs.

    • Posting and managing job advertisements.

    • Screening applications and conducting phone interviews.

    • Coordinating interviews and the recruitment process.

    • Preparing employment contracts and associated documentation.

    • Coordinating induction and onboarding of new employees.

  • Partner with department leaders to identify and support learning and development opportunities.

  • Develop and maintain training materials and HR documentation.

  • Assist with the development, review and implementation of HR policies, procedures and templates.

  • Support employee relations matters, including grievances, performance management and disciplinary processes.

  • Contribute to HR projects and initiatives aimed at improving employee experience and engagement.

  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, systems and workflows.

  • Support employee offboarding, including conducting exit interviews.

  • Assist with the ongoing improvement of induction and onboarding processes.

  • Maintain employee training records and the company training and skills matrix.

  • Provide general HR support and respond to employee and manager queries.

  • Undertake other duties as required to support SMARDT's HR objectives.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience in an HR Coordinator or similar generalist HR role.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with employees and leaders.

  • Good written communication skills and strong attention to detail.

  • The ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

  • The confidence and capability to take ownership of tasks and work autonomously.

  • Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.

  • A proactive, practical and solutions‑focused approach.

  • Strong computer skills and confidence using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • An aptitude for systems, document control and process improvement.

  • The ability to follow company policies, procedures and safe work practices.

Highly Desirable
  • Certificate IV in Human Resources, Business or a related field.

  • Working knowledge of the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards (NES) and Modern Awards.

  • Experience supporting employee relations, performance management and disciplinary matters.

  • Experience working within a manufacturing, engineering or similar environment would be advantageous.
