Job summary

MacKellar Group, a leading mining contractor, invites applications for an HR Advisor to join the team at the Carmichael Mine in Central Queensland. This hands-on, site-based role partners with operational leaders to provide practical HR advice and support across employee relations, performance and workforce matters.

You will work across site with supervisors and managers to maintain a safe, compliant and high-performing workplace, handling investigations, warnings, and performance plans while

Qualifications

• Previous experience in an HR Advisor or HR Generalist role.
• Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or related discipline.
• Experience across employee relations, investigations, performance management and disciplinary processes.
• Working knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Awards and/or Enterprise Agreements.
• Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent organisation and time management skills.
• Experience in mining, construction, civil or related industrial environment is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Providing day-to-day HR support across site and with supervisors, managers and employees.
• Assist with employee relations, investigations, grievances, misconduct and disciplinary matters.
• Prepare HR documentation including warnings, investigation outcomes and performance plans.
• Coach leaders on employment legislation and Enterprise Agreement interpretation.
• Support fitness for work, return-to-work and absenteeism in partnership with Health.
• Build relationships with leaders and employees across site and coordinate with payroll and site admin.
• Support HR projects and continuous improvement activities; escalate complex matters.

This is a hands‑on, site‑based HR role where you’ll partner closely with operational leaders, provide practical HR advice and support employee relations, performance and workforce matters.

About the Role

As an HR Advisor, you’ll provide day‑to‑day HR support across site, working closely with supervisors, managers and employees to help maintain a safe, compliant and high‑performing workplace.

You’ll be responsible for:

• Providing practical HR advice across employee relations and people management
• Supporting performance management, investigations, grievances, misconduct and disciplinary matters
• Preparing HR documentation including warnings, investigation outcomes, performance improvement plans and termination correspondence
• Coaching leaders on employment legislation, Enterprise Agreement interpretation and HR best practice
• Supporting fitness for work, return‑to‑work and absenteeism matters in partnership with the Health team
• Building strong relationships with leaders and employees across site
• Working with Payroll, Travel and Site Administration to resolve employee and roster‑related matters
• Supporting HR projects, initiatives and continuous improvement activities
• Escalating complex employee relations matters where appropriate

About You

You’re a confident HR professional who enjoys working closely with operational teams and providing practical, solutions‑focused advice.

You’ll bring:

• Previous experience in an HR Advisor or HR Generalist role
• Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
• Experience across employee relations, investigations, performance management and disciplinary processes
• Working knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Awards and/or Enterprise Agreements
• Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills
• Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
• A practical and approachable style with the confidence to work with leaders at all levels
• Experience in mining, construction, civil, manufacturing or another industrial environment will be highly regarded
