Job summary

Newcastle University is seeking an IT installation technician to install sensors and networking equipment in the homes of Parkinson's patients as part of the TORUS project. You will also support the research team in the lab, troubleshoot issues, prepare equipment for deployment and maintain laboratory spaces.

The role involves travel to homes around Newcastle and may require out-of-hours work with advance notice; reporting to the Institute Technical Manager and Dr Silvia Del-Din, you will

Qualifications

• Experience in installing IT equipment and networks.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues in lab and field settings.
• Experience with health and safety in laboratory environments.

Responsibilities

• Plan and undertake installation of sensors in homes across Newcastle.
• Provide technical support to ensure systems operate reliably.
• Assist with data collection improvements and maintenance tasks.
• Coordinate with suppliers and resolve equipment issues.
• Develop procedures for safe, compliant lab and field work.
• Supervise lab spaces and support training for staff and students.
• Manage budgets and monitor resource use where applicable.
• Travel to participant homes for installations and remote setups.
