Job summary

N & P Heavy Mechanical Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join our Yatala, QLD workshop. This full‑time role responsibilities include diagnosing faults, performing repairs and routine maintenance on a range of heavy vehicles to ensure safety and efficiency.

You will work with modern diagnostic equipment, maintain high standards of workmanship, and contribute to training junior staff while upholding health and safety requirements in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Current Heavy Vehicle Mechanic licence or equivalent recognised in Australia.
• Minimum of 3–5 years' experience working as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic in a professional workshop or similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of heavy vehicle systems including engines, drivetrains, hydraulics, electrical systems, and braking systems.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and workshop tools.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work methodically and accurately.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with supervisors, colleagues, and customers.
• A commitment to health and safety practices and compliance with workplace procedures.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Current driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical faults and defects in heavy vehicles using diagnostic equipment and technical knowledge
• Perform comprehensive repairs and maintenance on engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, and other vehicle components
• Conduct routine servicing including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid top-ups, and system checks
• Inspect vehicles for safety compliance and prepare them for roadworthiness certification
• Document work completed, parts used, and time spent on each job in accordance with workshop procedures
• Communicate effectively with workshop supervisors and customers regarding repair status and vehicle condition
• Maintain a clean and organised work area, adhering to health and safety standards
• Assist in training and mentoring junior mechanics where appropriate
• Keep up to date with the latest heavy vehicle mechanical technology and repair techniques
