Job summary

Chatham High School in regional NSW is seeking an energetic Head Teacher of Mathematics to lead the Mathematics faculty for Years 7–12 and to drive whole-school numeracy initiatives. Position Information

Chatham High School is a large welcoming comprehensive high school that services the town of Taree and adjacent rural and coastal areas with an enrolment of approximately 550 students. The school is seeking an energetic leader who will continue to grow our Mathematics faculty along with the wider responsibility of supporting whole school Numeracy initiatives.

Approximately 50% of students enrolled at Chatham High School are of Aboriginal descent and the school enjoys a close connection to the local community through a wide variety of cultural programs. The school has a mix of experienced and early career teaching, support, administrative and executive staff, noted for their caring attitude and commitment to high expectations for all students.

A broad academic and vocational curriculum is supported by diverse cultural and extra curricula programs offered by the school to enhance student retention and attainment. These include CHACE, a Curriculum Extension program in stage four, a Talented Athlete Program (TAP) and a well-resourced and staffed Senior Support Centre for stage six students. Student success is underpinned by strong staff commitment to working in teams to support classes and individual students. Student leadership is an active and valued aspect of school life and enhances the increasingly positive perception of the school in the community.

Specific Selection Criteria

• Approval to teach Mathematics Years 7–12, with demonstrated experience in delivering engaging, explicit and differentiated teaching across the full range of Mathematics courses, including Stage 6, to improve student engagement, growth and achievement.
• Demonstrated capacity to provide strategic instructional leadership in developing a cohesive, high‑performing Mathematics faculty through collaborative practice, mentoring, professional learning and evidence‑informed feedback.
• Demonstrated expertise in leading the development, implementation and evaluation of high‑quality curriculum, assessment and reporting practices, using evidence and student learning data to strengthen classroom practice and improve numeracy and HSC outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of high expectations and culturally responsive teaching practice that improves participation and achievement for Aboriginal students, students experiencing disadvantage and learners with diverse needs, while contributing collaboratively to whole‑school improvement.

• Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
• Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
• Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
• Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
• Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
• Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
