Job summary

Australian Retirement Trust in Brisbane or Sydney is seeking a Manager - Privacy to lead privacy, data protection and AI governance across the organisation. You will lead a team of privacy professionals and partner with technology, risk and legal leaders to embed privacy by design in projects and processes.

You will oversee privacy incidents, regulatory engagement and notifiable data breaches, and help align our privacy framework with legislation and community expectations.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in law, risk, information security, or data governance.
• Experience leading privacy and data protection programs in a complex organisation.
• Strong knowledge of the Privacy Act 1988, Notifiable Data Breaches Scheme and contemporary obligations.
• Experience in privacy risk management, governance frameworks and privacy by design.
• Ability to translate complex regulatory and technical concepts into practical business outcomes.
• Stakeholder engagement skills to influence across all levels; experience with regulators.
• Comfort with change, ambiguity, and enterprise-wide uplift; knowledge of AI governance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of privacy specialists, providing expert advice and driving ongoing privacy uplift initiatives.
• Champion a culture of data protection, privacy awareness and responsible data use across the organisation.
• Partner with business leaders to embed privacy by design principles into projects, processes and new technology initiatives.
• Lead assessments of privacy incidents and notifiable data breaches, ensuring appropriate regulatory reporting and stakeholder management.
• Support engagement with regulators and coordinate responses to privacy-related enquiries and obligations.
• Oversee privacy complaints, information access requests and correction requests.
• Drive continual improvement of privacy frameworks, controls, policies and governance practices.
• Provide strategic advice to leadership on emerging privacy, security and AI governance risks.
• Monitor third-party providers to ensure they meet privacy, security and contractual obligations.
• Prepare reporting and insights for executive leadership, risk committees and board stakeholders.
