Job description

Australian Retirement Trust – Brisbane QLD

Description
We're all about helping our members make the most of their money. And while they go after their goals, you can too. As a Manager - Privacy, you'll play a critical leadership role in shaping and strengthening our privacy, data protection and AI governance capabilities.

You'll lead a team of privacy professionals and work across the organisation to ensure privacy obligations, controls, policies and processes are effectively embedded and continuously improved.
You'll partner with leaders across technology, risk, legal and business teams to provide practical guidance on privacy, data protection and emerging AI risks. You'll also support regulatory engagement, oversee privacy incidents and complaints, and help ensure our privacy framework continues to align with legislative and community expectations.

This is an opportunity to influence enterprise-wide outcomes, support innovation responsibly, and help create a culture where trust, transparency and member protection remain at the centre of decision making.

This role is a permanent opportunity and is based in Brisbane or Sydney.

Responsibilities
Day to day, you'll:

  • Lead and develop a team of privacy specialists, providing expert advice and driving ongoing privacy uplift initiatives.
  • Champion a culture of data protection, privacy awareness and responsible data use across the organisation.
  • Partner with business leaders to embed privacy by design principles into projects, processes and new technology initiatives.
  • Lead assessments of privacy incidents and notifiable data breaches, ensuring appropriate regulatory reporting and stakeholder management.
  • Support engagement with regulators and coordinate responses to privacy-related enquiries and obligations.
  • Oversee privacy complaints, information access requests and correction requests.
  • Drive continual improvement of privacy frameworks, controls, policies and governance practices.
  • Provide strategic advice to leadership on emerging privacy, security and AI governance risks.
  • Monitor third-party providers to ensure they meet privacy, security and contractual obligations.
  • Prepare reporting and insights for executive leadership, risk committees and board stakeholders.

Qualifications
It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:

  • You hold tertiary qualifications in law, risk, information security, data governance or a related discipline.
  • Your experience includes leading privacy and data protection programs within a complex organisation.
  • You'll bring strong knowledge of the Privacy Act 1988, Notifiable Data Breaches Scheme and contemporary privacy obligations.
  • You're experienced in privacy risk management, governance frameworks and privacy by design principles.
  • You can translate complex legal, regulatory and technical concepts into practical business outcomes.
  • Your stakeholder engagement skills enable you to influence and build trusted relationships at all organisational levels.
  • You'll have experience working with regulators and managing regulatory obligations.
  • You're comfortable leading change, navigating ambiguity and driving enterprise-wide uplift initiatives.
  • You understand the intersection of privacy, data governance and emerging AI technologies.
