Job summary

BDO in Australia seeks a senior privacy leader to oversee and strengthen privacy embedded across risk, legal, data, IT and business functions. You will guide risk and compliance, support business-aligned decisions, and lead the privacy team to foster a strong privacy culture.

You will drive the privacy roadmap, advise on international frameworks including GDPR, and embed privacy-by-design across policies, systems and technology. A tertiary law/business/IS degree and privacy certs are preferred.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Law, Business, Information Systems or related discipline.
• Professional certification in privacy or risk management is desirable (CIPP/A, CIPM or equivalent).
• Strong experience in privacy, data governance or compliance within a medium to large organisation.
• Demonstrated experience embedding privacy-by-design into processes, systems and tech delivery.
• Experience conducting privacy impact assessments and managing privacy risk, incidents and data subject rights.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of the firm's privacy roadmap and strategic privacy initiatives.
• Lead and develop the privacy team, including setting priorities and capability development.
• Interpret privacy obligations and provide practical advice on privacy risk across Australian and international frameworks.
• Embed privacy-by-design into policies, processes, systems and technology delivery, including AI/data initiatives.
• Partner with IT, security, architecture, data, legal, risk and business teams to design and operate privacy controls.
• Oversee privacy impact assessments, third-party privacy risk and cross-border data considerations.
• Manage privacy operations: incident/breach response, data subject requests, compliance registers.
• Report on privacy risk, controls, incidents and metrics to senior stakeholders.
• Deliver privacy training and awareness, monitor regulatory developments, drive improvement of the privacy framework.
