Job description

The Company

Our client is a privately owned group with a diverse portfolio spanning property development, property investment and hospitality operations. Backed by a hands-on, experienced ownership group, they are seeking a senior finance leader to act as a trusted commercial and financial adviser to the Directors.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Group Directors, you will be responsible for managing a small finance team. This is a senior leadership role responsible for the financial management, financial strategy and commercial oversight of the Group. This is not simply an accounting or Financial Controller role. Whilst technical accounting capability is essential, the successful candidate must be able to interpret the numbers, identify the key issues, assess their commercial implications and make clear recommendations directly to the Directors.

Your key responsibilities will include, but will not restricted to:

  • Acting as principal financial adviser to the Directors, providing clear and concise financial and commercial analysis
  • Taking overall responsibility for Group cash flow, liquidity and short-, medium- and long-term forecasting
  • Managing banking relationships, debt facilities, covenants and refinancing processes
  • Preparing feasibilities, funding analysis and financial information for lenders and investors
  • Reviewing development feasibilities, project budgets, costs, cash flow and profitability
  • Providing financial input into acquisitions, developments, disposals and JV structures
  • Leading, mentoring and developing the Finance team, and building a proactive, accountable finance function
  • Overseeing Group tax, compliance and statutory reporting obligations, including BAS, PAYG, payroll tax and FBT
  • Reviewing financial reporting and budgets for the Group’s hotel and operating business
  • Supporting business planning, capital structuring and value creation across the Group
The Successful Candidate

You will be a well credentialled Finance Leader, with significant experience within the Property Development sector. To be successful in this role, the following will be highly regarded:

  • CA or CPA qualification
  • Proven experience leading and managing a finance team
  • Strong accounting and financial management capability, with strong cash flow forecasting and financial planning experience
  • Experience with banking, debt and refinancing
  • Strong commercial judgement and financial analysis skills, with the ability to work directly with business owners and senior executives
  • Experience with development funding, lender negotiation, complex debt structures, JV or capital structuring highly regarded
  • Multi-entity group experience, and experience dealing with lenders, investors and professional advisers
The Benefits
  • A genuine right-hand role to the Directors, with real influence over commercial and investment decisions
  • Exposure to a diverse portfolio spanning property development, investment and hospitality
  • Leadership of an established finance function with the opportunity to shape its systems, processes and culture
  • Autonomy and trust from a hands-on, experienced ownership group
  • Attractive salary package
