Job summary

Andaz Gold Coast is seeking a Head Barista who leads our coffee program and delivers memorable guest experiences across our venues.

You will train and guide the barista team, maintain equipment, and craft exceptional espresso and filter coffees while ensuring quality, consistency and warmth in every interaction with guests and colleagues. Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays is required, with a passion for coffee culture and guest storytelling.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as Head Barista or in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of specialty coffee and brewing methods.
• Confidence using professional coffee equipment.
• Excellent communication, coaching and guest service skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the daily coffee operation with high standards for quality, consistency and presentation.
• Prepare and serve espresso coffee, filter coffee, tea and non-alcoholic beverages to a high standard.
• Welcome guests with warmth and deliver attentive, unscripted service.
• Share thoughtful recommendations based on guest preferences.
• Build strong knowledge of coffee origins, roast profiles, brewing methods and equipment.
• Train, coach and support barista colleagues.
• Contribute ideas for seasonal coffee offerings, signature drinks and new beverage experiences.
• Maintain coffee equipment to a high standard and complete daily cleaning and maintenance procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organised and well-stocked coffee station.
• Complete opening and closing duties accurately and efficiently.
• Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering, stock rotation and inventory control.
• Work closely with floor and kitchen colleagues to create a seamless guest experience.
• Support events, activations and special service periods when required.
• Follow all health, hygiene, safety and food-handling procedures.

Qualifications

About you

You are approachable, composed and naturally engaging. You enjoy reading the room, connecting with people and creating experiences that feel personal rather than scripted.

You will bring:

• Previous experience as a Head Barista, Senior Barista or in a similar leadership role.

• Strong knowledge of specialty coffee, espresso preparation and brewing methods.

• Confidence using and caring for professional coffee equipment.

• Strong communication, coaching and guest service skills.

• Excellent attention to detail and presentation.

• A collaborative, reliable and solutions-focused approach.

• Curiosity and a genuine interest in coffee culture.

• The ability to remain calm and organised in a fast-paced environment.

• Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.

• A current food safety certificate, or willingness to obtain one.

• Must already have current and ongoing working rights for Australia

Experience within a luxury hotel, premium restaurant, specialty coffee venue or high-volume operation will be highly regarded.
