Job description

  • Lead accounting, tax, treasury and reporting across Australia, New Zealand and the UK
  • Build and transform a best-in-class finance function supporting rapid growth and acquisitions
  • Partner directly with the CFO and executive team in a highly autonomous leadership position
The Organisation

Sharp & Carter is partnering with a private equity-backed technology group experiencing significant growth across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Following a series of strategic acquisitions, the business has established a strong market position within an essential services sector and continues to pursue both organic growth and targeted acquisition opportunities.

With a growing international footprint, sophisticated investor backing and an ambitious growth agenda, the organisation is now seeking a high-calibre Group Financial Controller to play a pivotal role in shaping the future finance function.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Group Financial Controller will assume responsibility for group accounting, financial reporting, tax, treasury and financial control across a complex multi-entity, multi-currency environment.

This is far more than a traditional controllership role. You will be tasked with building capability, improving processes, driving systems optimisation and establishing the financial infrastructure required to support the company's next phase of growth.

Leading an established finance team, you will partner closely with executive leadership while taking ownership of finance transformation initiatives, reporting integrity, compliance frameworks and acquisition integration activities.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Control & Reporting

  • Lead monthly, quarterly and annual group reporting processes
  • Oversee multi-entity consolidations, intercompany accounting and foreign currency reporting
  • Manage statutory financial reporting, audit processes and technical accounting matters
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and reporting requirements
  • Deliver accurate reporting to executive leadership, investors and external stakeholders

Treasury, Tax & Compliance

  • Oversee treasury management, cash flow forecasting and banking relationships
  • Manage taxation obligations across multiple jurisdictions
  • Maintain effective financial controls, governance frameworks and compliance processes
  • Coordinate external advisors including auditors, tax specialists and banking partners
  • Monitor covenant compliance and support lender reporting obligations

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Drive finance transformation, automation and process optimisation initiatives
  • Enhance reporting capabilities and improve the quality of financial information
  • Support ERP and finance systems implementation, optimisation and governance
  • Improve close processes, controls and overall finance team efficiency
  • Leverage technology to reduce manual processes and strengthen financial oversight

Leadership & Business Partnering

  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing finance team
  • Establish clear accountability, performance expectations and development pathways
  • Partner with senior executives on key commercial and strategic initiatives
  • Provide financial insights to support business planning and decision making
  • Contribute to acquisition due diligence, integration and growth initiatives
About You

You are a commercially minded and technically strong finance leader who enjoys building, improving and scaling finance functions within high-growth environments. You possess the ability to balance hands-on execution with strategic leadership and thrive in organisations undergoing change and transformation.

You will bring:

  • CA/CPA qualification
  • 10+ years' experience across accounting, finance and controllership roles
  • Strong financial accounting, reporting and technical accounting expertise
  • Experience managing multi-entity and ideally multi-currency environments
  • Proven capability leading audits, consolidations, compliance and financial controls
  • Exposure to treasury, cash flow management and taxation oversight
  • Demonstrated experience improving systems, processes or finance team performance
  • Strong stakeholder management and leadership capability
  • Experience within software, technology, SaaS or acquisitive businesses highly regarded
  • Exposure to private equity-backed organisations viewed favourably
Benefits
  • Rare opportunity to build and shape a finance function during a significant growth phase
  • Direct exposure to an experienced CFO, executive leadership team and investors
  • Broad mandate spanning reporting, controls, treasury, tax, systems and acquisitions
  • International business with exposure across multiple jurisdictions
