Tourism and Events Queensland is seeking a Group Executive Events to steer Queensland's events strategy and calendar. You will sit on the Executive Leadership Team and report to the CEO, guiding the Events Group across major, destination, mega and strategic events, and overseeing the Mega and Strategic Events Fund.
This is a high-impact role with responsibilities spanning government engagement, partnerships with rights holders and industry, and delivering a balanced statewide events calendar to
Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) is the Queensland Government's lead agency for tourism marketing, destination and experience development, and major events. Its purpose is simple and ambitious: to make the world want to experience Queensland, and to give Queenslanders even more reason to be proud of the place they call home. Working hand in hand with government, regional tourism organisations, industry and commercial partners, TEQ grows the visitor economy by bringing the state’s destinations, experiences and events to life for audiences across Australia and around the globe.
There has never been a more exciting time to join. Under the Queensland Government's Destination 2045 strategy, events have moved to the centre of the state’s tourism agenda, with a clear ambition to make Queensland Australia's Events Capital. Investment is growing, government backing is strong, and TEQ is shifting from funding events to actively curating a calendar that delivers real economic and community impact.
TEQ's culture is built on five ways of working: being brave enough to challenge how things are done, thinking strategically about Queensland's long-term interests, influencing beyond your own team, staying focused on results, and negotiating in good faith for outcomes that last. The executive team is collaborative and open with leaders trusted to own their portfolios and encouraged to speak frankly.
As Group Executive Events, you will be one of TEQ's most influential leaders, setting the direction for how Queensland attracts, invests in and gets the most from events. Sitting on the Executive Leadership Team and reporting to the CEO, you will lead the Events Group across major and destination events, mega and strategic events, business events, and event operations and marketing, and oversee the Queensland Government's Mega and Strategic Events Fund.
This is a role with real reach. You will work closely with Ministers, Directors-General, the Major Events Special Envoy and the TEQ Board, while building partnerships with event owners, rights holders, regional tourism organisations and industry. The opportunity goes beyond single events, with responsibility for developing a balanced State wide calendar of events and engaging across Government and regions to drive maximum benefit from hosting those events.
You will be a senior executive whose career has been built across major events, sport, entertainment or related commercial environments, with demonstrated experience identifying opportunities, securing major events and developing partnerships that deliver commercial and economic outcomes. This includes a strong understanding of event acquisition, commercial negotiations, investment assessment and leveraging events to achieve broader strategic benefits.
Your experience engaging with Boards, government decision-makers, major event owners and commercial partners, navigating competing priorities and influencing complex decisions will support your success. This experience will also reflect an understanding of how major sporting, cultural and entertainment events can contribute to tourism growth, international connectivity, trade and broader economic development.
Strong commercial judgement will be essential, supported by experience assessing significant investment proposals, negotiating complex agreements and balancing financial returns, strategic priorities and risk. Equally important is the ability to translate opportunities into outcomes through established industry relationships and effective partnerships.
As a leader, your experience will include managing multidisciplinary teams, establishing clear direction and fostering a culture of accountability and performance. Comfortable operating in a high-profile environment, you bring sound political judgement, confidence in decision-making and a collaborative leadership style that empowers teams to deliver results.
Knowledge of Queensland's tourism and events landscape, business events and government processes, along with relevant tertiary qualifications, would be highly regarded.
This is a full-time, 4-year executive role based in Brisbane.
