Job description

Executive Director Corporate Affairs and Engagement

Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) is the Queensland Government's lead agency for tourism marketing, destination and experience development, and major events. Through strategic partnerships, industry leadership and destination promotion, TEQ plays a pivotal role in growing the visitor economy and showcasing Queensland to the world.

As Queensland enters a decade of significant opportunity, tourism and events are becoming increasingly important drivers of economic growth, regional development and community prosperity. With heightened stakeholder expectations, increased government focus and the global attention that will accompany Brisbane 2032, TEQ is operating in an environment that has never been more visible, connected or influential.

This is a pivotal time to join.

TEQ's success has always been built on relationships; with government, industry, regional partners and communities across the state. As the organisation continues to evolve its role within Queensland's tourism ecosystem, the ability to build trust, influence outcomes and navigate complexity has never been more important.

TEQ's culture reflects this environment. It is collaborative, practical and outcomes focused. Leaders are encouraged to bring a whole-of-organisation perspective, contribute beyond their portfolio and work together to solve complex challenges. The Executive Leadership Team is highly engaged, values diverse perspectives and operates with a strong sense of collective accountability for organisational success.

About the Role

As Executive Director Corporate Affairs and Engagement, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will lead the functions responsible for protecting and enhancing TEQ's reputation, strengthening stakeholder relationships and ensuring the organisation remains connected, informed and influential across government, industry and the broader community.

This is not simply a communications or stakeholder engagement role.

It is an executive leadership position spanning corporate affairs, government relations, issues management, stakeholder engagement, destination partnerships and organisational influence. The role sits at the intersection of government, policy, reputation and strategy, providing the opportunity to shape conversations, inform decisions and influence outcomes that extend well beyond the organisation itself.

You will work closely with Ministers, Ministerial Offices, government departments, regional tourism organisations, local government leaders, industry representatives and key strategic partners. Through these relationships, you will help advance TEQ's priorities while ensuring the organisation remains responsive to emerging opportunities, risks and stakeholder expectations.

You will also lead TEQ's approach to reputation management, crisis and disaster communication, ensuring the organisation is prepared to respond with confidence during periods of heightened scrutiny or disruption.

Beyond the portfolio itself, you will contribute to the broader leadership of TEQ, bringing an enterprise-wide perspective to organisational priorities, culture, governance and performance. Leading a multidisciplinary team, you will play an important role in shaping both the organisation's direction and its impact across Queensland.

About You

You are an accomplished executive who understands the power of relationships and the responsibility that comes with influence.

You have built your career in complex environments where stakeholder expectations are high, competing interests must be balanced and trust is fundamental to achieving outcomes. You bring the judgement to navigate ambiguity, the credibility to engage at the most senior levels and the confidence to provide advice when the stakes are high.

You may have gained your experience within government, a statutory authority, an industry body, a government-owned corporation or another stakeholder-intensive environment. More important than your background is your ability to build enduring relationships, anticipate issues before they emerge and bring people together in pursuit of a common goal.

You will bring:

  • Significant experience engaging with senior government, industry and stakeholder leaders.
  • Strong strategic judgement and an ability to navigate politically and operationally complex environments.
  • Experience leading organisational reputation, stakeholder engagement, corporate affairs or related functions.
  • The ability to identify emerging risks and opportunities and provide balanced, commercially informed advice.
  • A collaborative leadership style that empowers others and builds high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, coupled with a calm and measured approach under pressure.
  • An enterprise mindset and genuine interest in contributing beyond your portfolio.

Most importantly, you will bring the credibility, authenticity and leadership presence required to operate as a trusted partner to the CEO.

This is a full-time, four-year executive appointment based in Brisbane.
