Job summary

Balgownie Estate is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Officer to care for our outdoor spaces in Yarra Glen. This part-time, four-day-a-week role focuses on high-quality lawn, garden and outdoor area upkeep within a hospitality setting.

The ideal candidate will love horticulture, be physically fit for varied weather, and enjoy working with a team to maintain safe, welcoming grounds.

Qualifications

• Experience in grounds maintenance or horticulture within hospitality is preferred.
• Ability to safely use common hand tools and perform basic repairs within the role scope.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality outdoor spaces.
• Good physical fitness to work outside in various weather conditions.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Physical capability for heavy lifting and prolonged outdoor tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular maintenance of lawns, gardens and outdoor areas including mowing, trimming, weeding and planting.
• Undertake routine property maintenance and minor repairs to support safe operation of the estate.
• Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of outdoor spaces including pathways, car parks and recreation areas.
• Monitor plant and tree health and apply appropriate treatments as needed.
• Assist in landscape design and implementation to enhance grounds’ visual appeal.
• Operate and maintain gardening equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
• Collaborate with the team to maintain grounds and property cohesively.
• Report issues or hazards to management promptly.

The Grounds Maintenance Officer at Balgownie plays a crucial role in ensuring the aesthetic appeal and functionality of outdoor spaces within our hospitality establishment in Yarra Glen. This part-time four day a week position is essential for maintaining the grounds to a high standard, contributing to the overall guest experience and satisfaction. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for detail and a passion for horticulture and maintenance, ensuring that our outdoor areas and facilities are both welcoming and well-kept.

Responsibilities:

• Perform regular maintenance of lawns, gardens, and outdoor areas, including mowing, trimming, weeding, and planting.
• Undertakes routine property maintenance and minor repairs, as directed and within the employee’s training and capabilities, to support the safe and effective operation of the estate.
• Ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of all outdoor spaces, including pathways, car parks, and recreational areas.
• Monitor and manage the health of plants and trees, applying appropriate treatments as necessary.
• Assist in the design and implementation of landscaping projects to enhance the visual appeal of the grounds.
• Operate and maintain gardening equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
• Collaborate with other team members to ensure a cohesive approach to grounds and property maintenance.
• Report any issues or hazards related to the grounds to management promptly.

Qualifications and experience:

• Previous experience in grounds maintenance or horticulture, preferably within the hospitality sector.
• Practical ability to use common hand tools safely and complete basic property repairs, adjustments, touch-up painting and preventative maintenance within the scope of the role.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.
• Good physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
• Physical capability to handle heavy lifting and prolonged outdoor tasks in varied weather conditions.
