Job summary

Lockheed Martin Australia is seeking a dedicated pilot training instructor to deliver aircraft systems and procedures training for the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Australian Navy, and Australian Army candidates.

Based at one of our bases in Victoria, the role involves classroom and hands-on training, maintaining records, and developing new teaching methods to enhance instructional effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications in a relevant discipline of aviation and/or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment.
  • Substantial experience in a training environment/delivery of training services.
  • Previous experience in the ADF.
  • Former QFI/QHI or ground training officer.
  • Experience on large aircraft types or fast jet.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver classroom instruction focused on aircraft systems, operational procedures, aircraft performance, ATC and airspace procedures, emergency protocols, troubleshooting, navigation, aerodynamics, radio operations, and aviation regulations.
  • Maintain student training records.
  • Conduct aircraft visits and procedure training aboard static airframes and within procedural trainers.
  • Assess and report on each student’s proficiency with feedback and targeted counseling.
  • Maintain, secure, and inventory all training equipment, manuals, course materials, and supplies.
  • Keep accurate training records and reports in compliance with standards.
  • Innovate and develop new teaching methods and training aids to improve instructional efficiency.

The Opportunity

Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain an active Australian Government Defence security clearance at the level required for the position.

The AIR 5428 Pilot Training System partners with the Australian Defence Force for development of its military pilot workforce at four operating bases, RAAF Base East Sale, RAAF Base Pearce, RAAF Base Edinburgh, and RAAF Base Williamtown. Implementing a tailored learning solution, Lockheed Martin leads the delivery of this approach for all Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Australian Navy and the Australian Army candidates; as well as supporting operations for other key Australian Defence Force aviation units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver classroom instruction focused on aircraft systems, operational procedures, aircraft performance, Air Traffic Control and airspace procedures, emergency protocols, troubleshooting, navigation, aerodynamics, radio operations, civil and military aviation regulations, and ADF policies.
  • Maintain student training records.
  • Conduct aircraft visits and procedure training both aboard static airframes and within procedural trainers.
  • Assess and report on each student’s proficiency, providing feedback and targeted counseling for those needing additional support.
  • Maintain, secure, and inventory all assigned training equipment, manuals, course materials, and related supplies.
  • Keep accurate training records, files, and reports in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Innovate and develop new teaching methods, techniques, and training aids to improve instructional efficiency and effectiveness.
