Job description

Our client operates in one of the most exciting and fast-evolving areas of the built environment: smart buildings, automation and energy performance

Specialising in Building Management and Control Systems and Energy Management Systems, they help bring buildings to life by connecting and coordinating the many services that make them function, from HVAC and electrical systems through to lighting, metering, fire, security and other integrated technologies.

For a Graduate Project Engineer, this role offers far more than exposure to a single discipline. It provides the opportunity to work across multiple building services trades, understand how each system contributes to the overall operation of a building, and develop practical skills in controls, integration, project delivery and energy efficiency.

This is a strong career pathway for someone who is technically curious, enjoys problem-solving, and wants to be part of the future of intelligent, sustainable buildings.

The Opportunity:

Are you looking to kickstart your career in a multifaceted role? Our client is seeking a dynamic Graduate Project Engineer to join their team. In this unique position, you will wear multiple hats, acting as part engineer, part project manager, and part adviser. You will be instrumental in identifying problems, providing technical solutions, and helping clients meet their sustainability and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Graduate Project Engineer, your day-to-day duties will be highly varied, offering immense opportunities for professional growth. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering projects in accordance with client contracts, procedures, timeframes, and budget objectives.
  • Producing wiring diagrams, functional descriptions, and software aligning with industry standards.
  • Integrating and optimising building systems, including HVAC, lighting, fire safety, and security.
  • Managing project financials, including billing, pricing variations, and assisting with accounts payable.
  • Directing site surveys and supervising the installation and construction work of technicians and contractors.
  • Commissioning new installations and inspecting completed project works.
  • Liaising effectively with customers, design engineers, planning authorities, and suppliers to resolve problems.
  • Taking an active role in Workplace Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (WHSEQ) requirements, including conducting site audits and implementing hazard control measures.

About You Our client values attributes, potential, and a passion for learning over strict prerequisites. While a trade or engineering qualification is highly advantageous, it is not an absolute requirement if you possess the right technical mindset.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong passion and interest in "technical" matters, with an inquisitive nature and a commitment to ongoing learning.
  • A "can-do" attitude combined with a proactive approach to time management and problem-solving.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to build rapport with clients and stakeholders.
  • A foundational understanding of basic control principles, IT, and device networks.
  • Strong technical knowledge or an eagerness to learn about building systems (HVAC, lighting, security, etc.) and building automation software.
  • Prior exposure to programming concepts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel/Google Suite, including data analysis and generating reports.

Why Apply? This is a rare opportunity to step into a role where you will be fully supported to develop an extensive skill set that goes beyond any single engineering discipline. You will be joining an organisation that values continuous improvement, sustainability, and the professional development of its staff.
