Job summary

CMW Geosciences, Darwin, is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geologist Graduate to commence in November or December 2026. You’ll work on field-based tasks, learn from senior staff, and participate in a comprehensive graduate training program designed to fast-track your career from day one.

Typical days involve site work, logging boreholes, soil testing, and reporting, with opportunities to manage projects within 3–4 years.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology or Earth Science.
• Ability to perform strenuous fieldwork tasks.
• Full NZ or Australian driver's license.
• Willingness to travel as required.
• Desire to work outdoors with rocks, soil and geology.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

Our Darwinoffice is looking to bring on a Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geologist Graduatefor November or December 2026commencement.

As a graduate at CMW, you'll be treated like an industry professional from the get-go. After completing the necessary training and inductions, you'll go out in the field to learn the practical field skills that form the basis of the technical work we do. You'll have access to senior technical staff to guide you through the early stages of your career and fast-track your growth. You'll be exposed to the full project lifecycle to start to prepare you for a career from day one. Unlike larger organizations, you won't be siloed into one stream of the business or handed low-responsibility tasks for the first year. You'll be learning technical, practical and project-related skills, and within 3-4 years, we expect you'll be able to manage and run projects from start to finish.

A Typical Day

CMW Geosciences graduates step into hands-on, field-based roles where you'll build and expand your technical knowledge and expertise every day. A typical day could include: Going to site to complete manual field work tasks and testing. Onsite testing might include logging rock and soil bore holes, undertaking hand augers or observing machine excavated test pits. On our construction sites you would be observing piling, retaining walls or ground improvement sites.

If you're in the office, you would likely be processing logs and soil samples, writing technical reports and assisting project managers with deliverables.

Our range of projects are diverse across countries and offices: you could be communicating design elements to contractors on a community housing development in Rotorua. Or, be in regional Queensland at the MacIntyre Windfarm, carrying piling supervision and providing construction phase support. Or, across the country in Perth at Jandakot Airport undertaking CPT testing, dynamic cone penetrations testing, infiltration testing and hand auger boring.

What You'll Need

• A Civil Engineering, Geology or Earth Science Degree
• Ability to complete strenuous fieldwork tasks
• Ability to travel when required
• A full New Zealand or Australian driver's license
• A desire to work outside with a love of rocks, soil and geology
• Good interpersonal skills
• Exceptional organisation and communication skills, both verbal and written
