Job summary

Broken Hill Mines is seeking a recent Geology graduate to join our team in Broken Hill, NSW, for a residential role focused on geological support for underground mining operations.

You will map, sample, collect data and interpret geology to assist mine planning and production, while developing hands-on experience in a technically challenging mining environment.

Qualifications

• This position requires a tertiary qualification in Geology and awareness of underground mining geology principles.
• Proficiency with data collection, mapping, and reporting tools is preferred.
• Exposure to geological software such as Vulcan, Leapfrog and Log Chief is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Produce and maintain geological plans, maps, reports, and databases in line with company procedures.
• Conduct underground face and back mapping, core logging, and grade control sampling.
• Monitor stope and development performance to ensure geological accuracy and grade control compliance.
• Assist in the supervision of drilling activities, including core recovery, orientation, and data integrity.
• Support daily and weekly geological reporting for mine production and development.
• Work with Mining and Technical Services to align targets with geological plans.
• Maintain high safety standards and proactively manage hazards.
• Participate in continuous improvement and training initiatives.

Broken Hill Mines has an exciting opportunity for a recent Graduate Geologist to join our team and begin their career in a dynamic mining environment.

Reporting to the Mine Geologist, you will play a key role in providing timely and accurate geological services to support safe and efficient underground mining operations. This includes mapping, sampling, data collection and geological interpretation to assist with mine planning and production.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to gain hands‑on experience across a range of underground geological and production activities within a technically challenging mining operation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce and maintain geological plans, maps, reports, and databases in line with company procedures.
• Conduct underground face and back mapping, core logging, and grade control sampling.
• Monitor stope and development performance to ensure geological accuracy and grade control compliance.

• Work collaboratively with Mining and Technical Services teams to ensure production targets align with geological plans.
• Maintain high standards of safety performance and proactively identify and manage hazards in the workplace.
• Participate in continuous improvement and training initiatives.

About You:

• A tertiary qualification in Geology (minimum four-year relevant degree).
• Awareness of underground mining geology principles and sampling practices.
• Competent in Microsoft Office 365 and data management systems.
• Exposure to geological software such as Vulcan, Leapfrog and Logchief (desirable).
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and maintain required lead monitoring standards.

The Rasp Mine is an operating silver‑lead‑zinc mine with a large Mineral Resource and a 750,000tpa processing plant.
