Job summary

Broken Hill Mines is seeking a motivated Graduate Metallurgist to join our team in Broken Hill, NSW. This residential, full-time role offers exposure to mineral processing operations, plant performance monitoring, lab testing, and continuous improvement initiatives under guidance of experienced metallurgists.

You will contribute to short/medium/long-term processing plans, assist with metallurgical accounting, laboratory work, and skill development across the processing plant while upholding

Responsibilities

• Assist with short, medium and long-term processing planning.

Residential position based in Broken Hill NSW

Broken Hill Mines is seeking applications for the position of Graduate Metallurgist to join our team in Broken Hill.

This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate to build practical experience in mineral processing and metallurgical operations, working alongside experienced metallurgists and processing professionals in an operating mine and processing environment. Reporting to the Plant Metallurgist, you will contribute to metallurgical projects, plant performance monitoring, laboratory test work and continuous improvement initiatives, while developing your knowledge across the processing plant.

Key responsibilities

• Assisting with short, medium and long-term processing planning
• Monitoring plant performance and identifying opportunities for improvement
• Assisting with daily and monthly metallurgical accounting
• Supporting metallurgical laboratory test work, including sample preparation, flotation and grinding tests
• Undertaking plant surveys, mineralogy sample selection and interpretation
• Assisting with the optimisation of processing methods and equipment
• Undertaking training across plant unit operations
• Providing relief support to the Plant Metallurgist when required
• Completing Job Safety Observations and Risk Assessments
• Supporting calibration of OSA and laser sizer equipment

About you

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about developing their career in metallurgical and mineral processing operations.

You will ideally have:

• A tertiary degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing or a related discipline
• An interest in base metals mineral processing
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• A proactive approach to learning and developing new skills
• The ability to identify hazards and participate in risk assessments
• A strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Pass a pre-employment medical
• Previous experience in base metals mineral processing is advantageous, but graduates are encouraged to apply.

Rasp Mine is an operating silver-lead-zinc mine in Broken Hill, with a large Mineral Resource and a 750,000tpa processing plant. The mine has operated for over 120 years, producing zinc and lead concentrates sold globally. Pinnacles Mine, situated 15km southwest of Broken Hill, is known for containing one of the area's highest-grade and shallowest silver-zinc-lead deposits.
