Job summary

SMEC in Parramatta is seeking a motivated Graduate Civil Engineer to join our Urban Infrastructure team. You will contribute to the delivery of major rail and metro infrastructure projects and learn from experienced engineers and technical specialists.

Our two-year Graduate Development Program accelerates growth through hands-on project experience, mentoring, workshops, and structured learning across disciplines, with opportunities to build consulting skills and progress within the SJ Group.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in or completed a Civil Engineering degree.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience with design tools is advantageous.

Responsibilities

The Role

We are seeking a recent Graduate Civil Engineer to join our Urban Infrastructure team in our Parramatta office.

Key responsibilities:

You’ll support the delivery of real infrastructure projects from day one — contributing to design, analysis and documentation while learning from experienced engineers and gaining exposure to site and project delivery.

• Contribute to the delivery of real projects by supporting design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation


• Assist with engineering calculations and analysis across areas such as roads, drainage or structures under guidance from senior engineers


• Participate in site visits and inspections to develop an understanding of how designs are implemented on live projects


• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design inputs and support project delivery milestones


• Learn and apply industry standards, tools and best practice through structured development and on-the-job experience

About You

You’re a motivated Civil Engineering graduate who enjoys problem-stopping, working in teams, and contributing to real‑world projects.

You will bring:

• A degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)


• Strong communication and teamwork skills


• Exposure to design tools such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D (12D or similar advantageous)
