Job summary

BHP’s Carrapateena operation seeks a Geotechnical Engineering leader to oversee safety, integrity and risk management for an expanding underground copper-cobalt project. You will guide a Geotechnical team through SLC to block cave development, driving technical excellence, people growth and cross-functional collaboration.

Based at Carrapateena with FIFO from Adelaide, you will partner with operations, projects and safety teams to deliver safe, productive outcomes and continuous improvement

Qualifications

• Geotechnical leadership in an underground metalliferous mine.
• Experience with block cave development readiness.
• Degrees in Geotechnical/Mining/Civil or Earth Sciences.
• Geotechnical processes and systems implementation.
• QA/QC of ground support systems.
• Material risk management experience.
• Geotechnical mapping, monitoring, and stability analysis.
• Geotechnical management-system practices.
• Interpretation of geotechnical data and structures.
• Experience with Deswik, MxRap, IMS, Leapfrog.
• Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
• Experience delivering strategic/tactical plans.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influence.
• Continuous improvement with financial acumen.

Responsibilities

• Oversee geotechnical risks and develop frameworks for SLC to BC transition.
• Lead Geotechnical team for planning and governance of SLC and block cave activities.
• Foster a culture of care by safety leadership and coaching of the team.
• Build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Shape culture in line with BHP Charter Values.
• Develop team capability through coaching and development.
• Collaborate across departments to improve production.
• Drive continuous improvement in work practices and procedures.
