Job summary

University of Sydney invites applications for a PhD Teaching Fellow in the School of Geosciences. The role is part-time (0.2 FTE) fixed-term for 2 years, located on the Camperdown Campus, with the academic aim of developing into the next generation of Australian university academics.

You will engage in teaching and learning activities while continuing your PhD research, delivering in-person practicals, tutorials, and learning resources for large first-year units.

Qualifications

• Honours or Masters degree in Geoscience or related field.
• Enrolled in a PhD program at the University of Sydney for the duration of appointment.
• Passion for teaching with tutoring experience preferred.
• Strong GIS skills and ability to work independently.
• Good time management, organisational skills and excellent communication.

Responsibilities

• Engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences meeting standards for education-focused staff.
• Contribute to delivery of in-person practical classes, tutorials, workshops for first-year units.
• Develop, deploy and evaluate learning resources for students and casual staff training.
• Engage with student feedback and evaluations of teaching practice.
• Suggest and evaluate improvements and innovations in teaching and learning.
• Attend School/Faculty meetings and contribute to events like Open/Info Days.
• Participate in education-related projects aligned to Faculty strategy.
