Job summary

Thiess is seeking aSenior Geologist to support mining operations across Central Queensland's Bowen Basin. You will provide geological and technical support to mining operations, interpret geological data, and collaborate with Technical Services, Mining and CHPP teams to meet coal quality and recovery targets.

You will contribute to coal reconciliation, geological modelling, reporting, and geotechnical support while building strong stakeholder relationships.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Geology.
• Significant experience in an open cut mining environment.
• Strong understanding of geological structures, modelling and data interpretation.
• Experience with geological modelling software such as Vulcan or similar.

Responsibilities

• Provide geological and technical support to mining operations.
• Monitor and optimise coal quality, recovery and reconciliation processes.
• Ensure geological structures are accurately interpreted and understood to support planning and extraction activities.
• Verify geological data and surveyed structural information.
• Support geotechnical functions through the provision of accurate geological information.
• Assist with end of month reporting and coal reconciliation activities.
• Work closely with Mining, CHPP and Technical Services teams to achieve operational outcomes.
• Promote a strong safety culture and maintain compliance with all relevant legislation and site requirements.

The Opportunity

Thiess is seeking an experienced Senior Geologist to support our operations across Central Queensland's Bowen Basin. In this role, you will provide geological and technical support to mining operations, working closely with Technical Services, Mining and CHPP teams to ensure coal quality and recovery targets are achieved, geological information is accurately interpreted, and operational objectives are delivered safely and efficiently.

Working as part of a collaborative technical team, you will contribute to coal reconciliation, geological modelling, reporting, and geotechnical support activities while building strong relationships with stakeholders across the operation.

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will:

• Provide geological and technical support to mining operations
• Monitor and optimise coal quality, recovery and reconciliation processes
• Ensure geological structures are accurately interpreted and understood to support planning and extraction activities
• Verify geological data and surveyed structural information
• Support geotechnical functions through the provision of accurate geological information
• Assist with end of month reporting and coal reconciliation activities

About You
