Job summary

Gold Fields is seeking a Lead Mine Geologist to drive geology projects at the Gruyere Gold Mine, supporting safe open-pit production and resource growth. You will conduct geological interpretation, orebody modelling, grade control, and QA/QC across sampling and data management.

The role requires a tertiary geology qualification, open-pit mining experience, and the ability to mentor junior geologists. FIFO from Perth on a 8/6 roster with benefits and career development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Geology or related discipline
• Open-pit mine geology experience
• Strong capability in geological interpretation, grade control, mapping and ore mark-up
• Experience with open-pit production environments and reconciliation processes
• Strong understanding of sampling, QAQC and geological data management
• Ability to mentor junior geologists
• Current manual driver’s licence

• Lead mine geology projects supporting safe and efficient open-pit production outcomes
• Conduct geological interpretation, orebody modelling, and grade control activities
• Monitor and reconcile production performance against geological models
• Oversee grade control RC drilling from pattern design to sampling and QAQC
• Plan, manage and supervise diamond drilling programs to deliver high-quality geological data
• Ensure QAQC protocols across sampling and data collection
• Collaborate with mining, planning, and technical services teams to optimise ore recovery and minimise dilution

In this role, you will take ownership of key geology projects across the Gruyere Gold Mine, supporting safe and efficient open-pit ore extraction while contributing to resource growth and operational success. You will play a critical role in geological interpretation, grade control, reconciliation, and mentoring geologists, while collaborating closely with mining and technical services teams in a high-performing environment.

Skills & Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Geology or related discipline
• Proven experience in open-pit mine geology, ideally within gold operations
• Strong capability in geological interpretation, grade control, mapping and ore mark-up
• Experience with open-pit production environments and reconciliation processes
• Strong understanding of sampling, QAQC and geological data management
• Ability to mentor junior geologists and contribute to team capability
• Current manual driver’s licence
