Job summary

Unknown is seeking a General Manager – Construction & Operations in Brisbane to lead the company’s construction and operational functions. General Manager – Construction & Operations

An established and growing construction group is seeking an accomplished General Manager – Construction & Operations to join its executive leadership team in a newly created role established to support the continued growth, operational maturity and expanding project pipeline of the business.

Reporting directly to the Joint Managing Director, the General Manager will assume responsibility for the overall leadership and performance of the company's construction and operational functions, managing a multidisciplinary team of approximately 15 personnel across project delivery, commercial management, estimating, design management and operations.

This is a hands-on executive construction leadership position with a strong emphasis on project delivery. The General Manager will provide oversight across all projects from pre-construction and design development through procurement, construction, completion and handover.

The Role

The General Manager will hold broad responsibility for the performance and integration of the company's construction functions, including:

• Executive oversight of all construction projects and project delivery teams.
• Leadership of approximately 15 personnel across project delivery, commercial, estimating, design and operational functions.
• Oversight of Project Management, Site Management and Contract Administration across the portfolio.
• Construction methodology, programming, sequencing, project resourcing and delivery strategy.
• Commercial and contractual performance, including procurement, variations, claims, EOTs, forecasting and cost-to-complete.
• Oversight of estimating and pre-construction, ensuring effective transition from tender through to project delivery.
• Design management, consultant coordination, buildability and constructability.
• Monitoring project performance across programme, cost, quality, safety and risk.
• Ensuring projects are appropriately structured and resourced throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Leading regular project performance reviews and resolving significant operational, technical and commercial issues.
• Developing consistent construction systems, reporting structures and operational controls across the business.
• Mentoring and developing senior project personnel and supporting succession planning.
• Providing the Joint Managing Director with clear executive reporting across project performance, commercial position, resourcing and risk.
• Contributing to broader business strategy and the continued growth of the company.

About You

We are seeking a highly experienced construction executive who combines strong technical construction and project delivery capability with commercial and operational leadership.

You will ideally bring significant experience at General Manager, Construction Manager, Operations Manager or senior Project Director level within a commercial construction environment, together with:

• Extensive experience delivering major building projects.
• Proven leadership across multiple projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong capability across construction management, site delivery, contract administration, estimating, procurement and design management.
• Advanced understanding of construction methodology, programming, sequencing and project controls.
• Strong commercial and contractual acumen.
• The ability to identify and resolve complex construction and programme issues.
• Experience developing and mentoring Project Managers, Site Managers, Contract Administrators and other senior construction personnel.
• Strong stakeholder management, negotiation and executive communication skills.A practical, accountable and delivery-focused leadership style.
