Job summary

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, construction management or a related discipline, or a relevant trade background with extensive senior management experience.
  • 15+ years in civil construction, SMP, or related sector, with at least 5 years in a senior operations or multi-project leadership role.
  • High-level communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence at an executive level.
  • Sound knowledge of WHS legislation and its practical application in construction.

Job description

We are seeking a General Manager - Projects to join our team as we enter an exciting phase of growth across WA, delivering civil and construction, bulk earthworks, dewatering and maintenance operations across the resources, energy and infrastructure industries.

About the Role

As a hands‑on leadership role, the General Manager - Projects is accountable for safe project delivery, financial performance, resource planning, and the development of people and systems across the business. The role is based at our West Perth Head Office, with regular and purposeful site presence expected to maintain project conditions, team performance, and safety culture across sites.

Operational Leadership
  • Provide operational leadership across the Group, setting priorities, allocating resources and ensuring delivery teams are aligned with business objectives.
  • Monitor project portfolios to identify risks, elevate issues and drive corrective action, supported by operational standards, processes and reporting frameworks.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for Construction Managers and Project Managers on delivery, commercial and people matters.
Project Delivery
  • Oversee planning, scheduling and programme integrity across all active projects, ensuring scope, deliverables and contract obligations are consistently met.
  • Drive a culture of proactive risk management across the portfolio, including regular review and maintenance of project risk registers.
  • Support Construction and Project Managers in managing senior client relationships and protecting the company's commercial position.
Safety, Quality and Environment
  • Champion safety and hold operational leaders accountable for HSE performance and application of HSE Management Plans.
  • Collaborate with Quality and HSE Leads, maintaining oversight of quality assurance, non‑conformance management and environmental compliance across the portfolio.
People Leadership and Development
  • Lead, mentor and develop Construction Managers, Project Managers and operational staff through coaching, structured development planning and disciplinary management.
  • Manage workforce planning across the Group, including resourcing forecasts, succession planning and recruitment input, ensuring capability is aligned to the project pipeline.
  • Foster a high‑performance, collaborative culture through fair, values‑aligned leadership and active modelling of the company's Code of Conduct.
Strategy and Growth
  • Work closely with the EGM to shape operational strategy, capability investment and business unit growth plans, supported by continuous improvement of systems, tools and processes across the Group.
  • Contribute to bid and tender activity by providing operational input on methodology, resourcing, risk and programme.
  • Identify and develop relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers that support long‑term business objectives.
Culture and Engagement
  • Model company values through leadership behaviour when managing performance, handling conflict and recognising contributions.
  • Actively participate in engagement activities, including toolbox talks, team briefings and company events.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, construction management or a related discipline, or a relevant trade background combined with extensive senior management experience.
  • 15+ years in civil construction, SMP, or a related sector with at least 5 years in a senior operations or multi‑project leadership role.
  • High‑level communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate at an executive level.
  • Proven commercial acumen across the full project lifecycle, including P&L management, contract administration, variation capture, cost control and risk management.
  • Sound knowledge of WHS legislation and its practical application in a construction environment.
  • Experience managing HR and industrial relations matters in line with company procedures and applicable legislation.
