Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimise CNC machining programs using CAM software to convert 3D models into G-code for manufacturing.
• Create and modify CAD/CAM models, toolpaths and manufacturing parameters to meet specifications.
• Select cutting tools, machining methods, feed rates and production parameters.
• Analyse drawings and specifications to determine suitable manufacturing processes.
• Support prototype and production components using CNC machining and manufacturing technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Developing and optimising CNC machining programs using CAM software to convert 3D engineering models into machine-readable G-code for the manufacture of mechanical components and equipment parts.
• Creating and modifying CAD/CAM models, machining strategies, toolpaths and manufacturing parameters to achieve required engineering specifications, tolerances and production outcomes.
• Selecting appropriate cutting tools, machining methods, feed rates and production parameters based on material properties, engineering requirements and manufacturing constraints.
• Analysing engineering drawings, 3D models, technical specifications and customer requirements to determine suitable manufacturing processes and machining solutions.
• Supporting the production of prototype and production components for mechanical equipment and systems through the implementation of CNC machining and manufacturing technologies.
• Conducting engineering reviews of manufactured components against mating parts, technical drawings and dimensional specifications to ensure functional compatibility and compliance with design requirements.
• Performing quality assurance inspections and dimensional verification of machined components using measuring equipment and engineering standards.
• Investigating machining issues, production defects and dimensional non-conformances and implementing corrective actions to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
• Evaluating and improving CNC machining processes, tooling arrangements and manufacturing workflows to enhance productivity, precision and operational performance.
• Assisting with tooling selection, process development and manufacturing planning for new prototype and production projects.
• Preparing and maintaining engineering documentation including machining programs, manufacturing specifications, inspection records and process improvement reports.
• Coordinating with customers, production personnel and quality teams to ensure manufactured components meet project specifications and performance requirements.
• Conducting routine engineering assessments and preventive maintenance activities on CNC machinery to ensure equipment reliability, operational accuracy and production continuity.
• Supporting the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving manufacturing quality, reducing waste and optimising machine utilisation.
• Ensuring all engineering and manufacturing activities comply with relevant quality standards, workplace health and safety requirements and company procedures.

Skills and Experience

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
• Minimum 1 year of experience
• Advanced skills in CAD/CAM software, solidworks, CNC programming, Alphacam.
• FANUC knowledge preferable.
• Experience in Engineering Plastic is essential.
• Strong understanding of Australian Standards and Regulations relating to mechanical

engineering.

• Ability to read and understand plans and drawings in imperial and metric

measurements.

• Ability to use micrometers, calipers and other measurement instruments
