Job summary

High Tech Tooling in Brisbane is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson for a permanent full-time role. You will prepare CNC programs, read engineering drawings and support tooling and manufacturing processes to deliver precise components.

Candidates should have a mechanical engineering qualification (or equivalent experience) and strong CNC/CAD skills, with the ability to interpret CAD models and specifications.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Advance Diploma or Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; or three years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications.
• CNC programming and CAD/CAM competency required to interpret drawings and specs.
• Strong knowledge of machining processes, tooling, workholding and CNC equipment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain CNC programs, drawings and manufacturing documentation for precision components and tooling.
• Interpret CAD models, drawings, specifications, dimensions and tolerances to develop manufacturable solutions.
• Support engineering and production teams with design, tooling, machining and manufacturing requirements.
• Select appropriate machining methods, tooling and machine requirements.
• Collaborate with CNC Operators to resolve programming, machining and dimensional issues and respond to production feedback.
• Provide input to design and production planning to improve manufacturability, quality and efficiency.
• Ensure programs and finished components meet specifications, quality and safety requirements.
• Maintain accurate technical records and comply with quality and safety systems.
• Develop, modify and optimise CNC programs for production.
• Review drawings and CAD models to determine machining needs and processes.
• Assist with proving, troubleshooting and improvements to CNC machining processes.

High Tech Tooling is an established engineering and precision manufacturing company specialising in advanced CNC machining, tooling and the manufacture of high-quality engineered components. The business combines modern manufacturing technology with skilled technical expertise to deliver accurate and reliable solutions to meet client requirements. We currently have a position available for a Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson.

Responsibilities Prepare and maintain CNC programs, mechanical drawings and manufacturing documentation for precision components, tooling and mechanical parts. Interpret CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, dimensions and tolerances to develop suitable manufacturing solutions.

Support engineering and production teams with mechanical design, tooling, machining and manufacturing requirements. Select appropriate machining methods, tooling, workholding and machine requirements. Work with CNC Operators to resolve programming, machining and dimensional issues and respond to production feedback.

Provide technical input to design and production planning to improve manufacturability, quality and efficiency. Ensure programs, drawings and finished components meet specifications, quality and safety requirements. Maintain accurate technical records and comply with HTT's quality and safety systems.

Tasks Develop, modify, test and optimise CNC programs for production. Prepare setup information, tool lists and supporting job documentation.

Review drawings and CAD models to determine machining requirements, materials, tolerances and processes. Assist with program proving, troubleshooting and improvements to CNC machining processes. Investigate dimensional and production issues and implement appropriate programming or process changes.

Provide technical feedback to engineering, design and production planning. Assist with inspection, quality issues and non-conformances. Maintain CNC program revisions, job records and historical documentation.

Support CNC Operators and production activities as required. Maintain a clean, safe and professional work environment.

Qualifications Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Drafting, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline; or At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above.

Skills CNC programming and CAD/CAM competency. Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, CAD models, specifications and tolerances. Knowledge of machining processes, tooling, workholding and CNC equipment.

Strong technical, numerical and problem-solving skills. High attention to detail and accuracy. Effective communication and ability to work with engineering and production personnel.

Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement. Experience Experience in CNC programming within precision engineering, tooling or manufacturing.

Experience preparing CNC programs and manufacturing documentation. Experience interpreting engineering drawings and CAD models for production. Practical knowledge of CNC machining, tooling and manufacturing processes.
