Super Taco on Crossley Street in the Melbourne CBD seeks a friendly Front-of-House host to welcome guests, take orders, and keep the flow going during lunch and dinner services. You will know the menu, explain fillings, manage dietary questions, and coordinate with the kitchen for timely service.

You will operate Square for orders and payments, greet guests by name, check IDs when needed, restock the salsa bar, and help keep the counter and dining area spotless.

Super Taco is a tiny, vibrant taquería on Crossley Street in the Melbourne CBD, inspired by the taquerías and street carts of Mexico City. It's small and built around fresh tortillas, four tacos made to order, an open kitchen, the salsa bar, and the connection between staff and guests.

About the role

The host at the front counter is the first and last thing every guest sees. You'll welcome people in, take their order, keep them in the loop while the kitchen cooks, call their name inside and then outside, assist the chefs in handing over their food and explain the salsa. When it's busy, you set the mood for the whole room.

• Greet everyone who walks in and try to remember faces and names
• Take orders and payments on Square, accurately and at pace
• Know the menu well and deliver it at the appropriate pace: explain the fillings, cooking processes, allergies, key ingredients and flavours, the salsa bar, and steer first-timers
• Handle dietary questions with confidence
• Give honest wait times when ordering in the lunch and dinner rush
• Call names clearly and check on anyone who's been waiting a while
• Keep the counter and the kitchen in step, so orders go out in sequence and nothing is missed
• Ensure no guest gets cold plates of food and prioritise the customer who's food is ready and waiting
• Serve beer, frozen cocktails and soft drinks under RSA rules, and restock fridges during busy service
• Check ID, refuse service when needed, and keep drinks within the permitted area
• Assist the chefs with keeping the salsa and toppings bar stocked and clean
• Clear and wipe tables inside and outside
• Help with washing up and stacking the dishwasher with glass in the back kitchen as required
• Help with opening and closing, setting up tables and chairs, napkins etc, and packing away etc.
• Handle complaints calmly, fix what you can and pass on feedback

About you

• Warm, genuine and calm under pressure
• You love tacos and people and want the best experience for everyone who enters
• Counter or front-of-house experience in a busy venue
• A current Victorian RSA certificate, or willingness to get one before starting
• Reliable, on time, and very happy to work Saturdays
• Experience with Square or a similar POS (nice to have)
• Spanish, or a real interest in Mexican food and culture (nice to have)
• Food Handler training (nice to have)
• An open, small team where you'll learn about the FOH and BOH
