Job summary

Urban Angels Community Kitchen is seeking a casual Food Services Assistant at the Kawana Hub Specialist Homeless Service on the Sunshine Coast. You will support three meals daily, ensure hygiene standards, and provide friendly service to residents, working alongside a chef, IFYS staff, and volunteers.

The role offers casual employment with AU$34.96 per hour (loading included) plus penalty rates, salary packaging, wellbeing reimbursement, and access to benefits including CALM Premium App and EAP.

Qualifications

• Experience in hospitality or food service is preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety standards is essential.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily kitchen operations including food preparation and customer service.
• Restock supplies and receive deliveries accurately.
• Assist the chef of the day in food preparations.
• Support residents to access refreshments and meals during the day.
• Work with volunteers to deliver catering services to residents.
• Train and supervise volunteers involved in the kitchen.
• Clean and sanitize dining and kitchen areas and maintain hygiene standards.

Urban Angels Community Kitchen is a platform for bringing the community together, creating and distributing a ready stock of nutritious frozen meals for people who need support in this way.

It was developed from understanding the challenges faced where, as a result of illness, trauma or other significant difficulty, it becomes an ordeal to arrange a nutritious, balanced meal. As many who have experienced crisis can attest, the simple gift of a meal at difficult times can not only relieve the stress of the moment but also lift the spirits of those in need

The opportunity

Urban Angels are seeking a casual Food Services Assistant to join the team situated at the IFYS Kawana Hub Specialist Homeless Service.

The Kawana Hub Specialist Homeless Service is a 68-bed short term emergency housing solution, available to residents of the Sunshine Coast that are experiencing homelessness.

The Food Services Assistant will support the provision of three meals a day, ensuring hygiene, health and safety standards are met, and providing friendly and non-judgmental service to all residents of the program. This role is part of a team of rostered Kitchen Support staff, working alongside a chef, other IFYS staff and volunteers.

Key requirements:

• Daily operations of the kitchen including customer service, food preparation, restocking and receiving delivered goods, accurate administration
• Assist chef of the day in food preparations
• Support residents to access refreshments and foods during the day
• Work alongside volunteers in the delivery of catering service to residents
• Train and supervise volunteers involved in the kitchen
• Cleaning and sanitising dining area and kitchen throughout the dayAssist with ensuring that the food served and the kitchen meets all legislated hygiene and health and safety requirements

To be successful in this role you will possess:

• A resilient and can-do nature
• A positive and non-judgmental manner interacting with people from all walks of life
• Experience in hospitality, customer service and/or community services highly regarded
• Knowledge of food safety standards
• Willingness to work agreed rostered hours. Flexibility to accept changes in rostered hours highly regarded
• Strong interpersonal and administrative skills

Must hold or be willing to obtain if successful:

• Valid Queensland Driver's License with no restrictions, and own reliable transport
• QLD Working with Children Check (Paid Blue Card)
• Licensed Care Service Suitability Check (LCS2)
• National Criminal History Check (a new check will be conducted through IFYS systems)
