Essential Energy in Wagga Wagga is seeking a Fleet Technician to diagnose, maintain and repair fleet vehicles and plant machinery, including elevated work platforms and crane borers. The role blends workshop and field-based work using Mobile Field Service units.

You will bring hands-on automotive experience with strong diagnostic skills and a safety-focused approach, able to work independently in the field or as part of a team in a workshop setting.

Qualifications

  • Qualified automotive professional with diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
  • Safety-focused with the ability to work in field and as part of a team.
  • Current NSW Driver Licence; HR preferred.
  • Maintain regulatory and business licences and certificates required for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out diagnostic testing and fault diagnosis to meet industry and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance and repairs, including welding and fabrication.
  • Undertake maintenance, inspections and adjustments across fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete vehicle refits and repairs; deliver field-based maintenance.
  • Assist with fit-out and inspection of new vehicles as required.
  • Maintain plant and equipment in accordance with standards.

Job description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Fleet Technician to join our team in Wagga.

We’re seeking a Fleet Technician to support the operation of our Fleet Workshop by diagnosing, maintaining and repairing fleet vehicles and plant machinery, including Elevated Work Platforms and Crane Borers. This varied role involves both workshop and field-based work using Mobile Field Service units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out diagnostic testing, specialist testing and fault diagnosis to ensure vehicles meet industry, regulatory and business requirements
  • Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance and repairs, including welding, machining, hydraulic, pneumatic and fabrication work
  • Undertake maintenance, inspections, repairs and adjustments across fleet vehicles, plant and equipment
  • Complete vehicle refits, maintenance and repairs
  • Deliver field-based plant and equipment maintenance during planned and unplanned situations
  • Assist with the fit-out and inspection of new vehicles when required
  • Maintain plant and equipment in accordance with industry and organisational standards
About You

The successful candidate will be a qualified and experienced automotive professional with strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills. You will bring a practical, safety-focused approach to fleet maintenance, with the ability to work effectively both independently in the field and collaboratively as part of a team.

Required Qualifications
  • Certificate III in Light Vehicle or Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent)
  • WorkCover NSW Construction Induction Certificate
  • Current NSW Driver Licence – HR preferred
  • Attainment and ongoing maintenance of all regulatory and business licences, authorisations and certificates required for the role
Experience and Skills
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role within the motor vehicle or mechanical repair industry
  • Practical experience applying a relevant trade qualification across plant, heavy or light automotive fields
  • Experience in heavy and light fleet operations, including plant and equipment used within an energy transmission and distribution environment
  • Experience in specialist vehicle engineering, hydraulics, pneumatics, automotive electrical systems, welding and fabrication
  • Knowledge of heavy and light vehicle standards and regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of regulations relating to fleet operations, including AS 2550.10, AS 1418.10 and RMS requirements
  • Working knowledge of safe plant operations and procedures
  • Strong data entry and record-keeping skills, with the ability to accurately complete reports and checklists
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees, service providers, contractors, customers and stakeholders
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Strong computer and business systems capability relevant to the role
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to use computerised maintenance management systems such as SAP, Oracle Cloud or Pronto
  • Ability to work unsupervised when undertaking field service activities
Desirable qualifications, licences and experience include:
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic qualifications or experience
  • Welding qualifications or experience
  • Automotive Electrical qualifications
  • Automotive Engineering qualifications
  • High Risk Work Licences, including C2, EWP and DG
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Current NSW HC Driver Licence
