Job summary

Hazeldenes Chicken Farm is seeking a hands‑on Mechanic 2IC to support the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor in leading the workshop team. You will oversee servicing, repairs, and ongoing reliability of the transport and logistics fleet, while mentoring apprentices and coordinating tasks in the Supervisor's absence.

You will diagnose faults across a range of light and heavy vehicles, ensure accurate documentation in the maintenance system, and collaborate with logistics to minimise downtime.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to lead a workshop or team.
• Experience performing maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Familiarity with maintenance management systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor in daily coordination of workshop operations and task allocation.
• Perform and oversee scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles including trucks, forklifts, trailers, generators, and refrigerated transport units.
• Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical faults across a variety of light and heavy vehicles.
• Ensure timely and accurate documentation of all maintenance tasks in the maintenance management system.
• Provide mentoring and technical support to junior mechanics and apprentices.
• Support parts ordering, inventory tracking, and liaise with suppliers as required.
• Uphold safety and compliance standards in all workshop activities, contributing to a zero-harm culture.
• Step into the supervisory role during the absence of the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor, including staff oversight and workflow management.
• Collaborate with logistics and transport teams to minimise vehicle downtime and support efficient fleet operations.
• Assist in ongoing improvements to maintenance procedures, tools, and workshop practices.
