Job summary

Hazeldenes Chicken Farm in Bendigo, Victoria is seeking a maintenance assistant to support the maintenance team in ensuring the safe, efficient operation of plant and equipment at our regional poultry facility. You will work with qualified tradespeople on preventative and breakdown tasks, ensuring GMP and safety standards are maintained.

Responsibilities

• Assist maintenance tradespersons (fitters, electricians, and contractors) with planned and reactive maintenance tasks.
• Support preventative maintenance activities in accordance with the site maintenance schedule.
• Assist with plant breakdowns to ensure equipment is returned to service in a timely manner.
• Perform basic mechanical tasks under supervision (e.g. component removal, cleaning, lubrication, part replacement, tool preparation).
• Maintain cleanliness of workshop areas, plant rooms and maintenance storage areas in line with GMP and food safety requirements.
• Safely use and maintain tools and equipment.
• Assist with installation of new equipment and plant modifications as required.
• Participate in shutdown activities and major maintenance projects.
• Support compliance with Work Health and Safety (WHS), food safety, quality and environmental standards.
• Follow Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and safe working practices at all times.
• Communicate effectively with production teams to coordinate maintenance activities with minimal disruption.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance function.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

To support the maintenance team in ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable operation of plant and equipment at Hazeldenes. The role assists qualified tradespeople with preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs and general site upkeep to minimise downtime and maintain compliance with food safety and safety standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist maintenance tradespersons (fitters, electricians, and contractors) with planned and reactive maintenance tasks.
• Support preventative maintenance activities in accordance with the site maintenance schedule
• Assist with plant breakdowns to ensure equipment is returned to service in a timely manner
• Perform basic mechanical tasks under supervision (e.g. component removal, cleaning, lubrication, part replacement, tool preparation)

• Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor. Area Technicians or Maintenance Manager.
